Hello, my name is Andrei and as you can see I'm new here (hope i posted this thread in the right place :nervous: ).

After saving some cash for a long time (yeah, I live in Romania :whip: poor wages here) I want to buy a pair of cdjs, a mixer and some dj headphones.

I am a trance dj so I'm asking your expertise on what should I get that will blend to the music I play.
I'm a beginner with cd decks and mixers (having mixed only in ableton and software so far :D , on which I'm doing pretty good, but you can't be called a real DJ unless you have the real gear in your home, can you? )

My budget is a little steep as I want to order from the USA (more exacly http://www.topdjgear.com/ ) If any of you have experiences with UPS shipping from the US please tell, I really don't know what the transport from New York USA to Bucharest Romania will cost (probably 500-1000$) but anyway I will come cheaper than buying the gear from Romania (no competition, high prices). :whip:

For CDJ and the Mixer i have a 2300$ budget let's say.
I was thinking of buying two Pioneer CDJ 800 MK2 and an Ecler NUO5 Mixer. Do you have any other recommendations ?
For the mixer I really don't know what to choose, I heared that the Ecler NUO5 is a top peace of kit. :conf:

For the headphones I'm pretty sure i'll get the AKG K181, they can't go wrong :)

Any reply will be welcomed. Thanks in advance.

i like this guy...

yeah man, you've done your research. all the gear you've mentioned is good. pioneers are top of the line. the nuo5 is great too. 2300 is a good amt of money to shop around with. go to agiprodj.com to get your gear. its cheap and they are authorized dealers. you can call them to get a good price on gear. the prices they have listed on their site are not the "real" prices.

good luck
Allied Nations
AKGs are e that break very easily

id highly sugget checking into the Sony 7506 of V6

they will last you years. my friends AKG's have gone about 6 months and he's ocd about the condition of his gear and taking care of it.

i also hated the eqs on the nuos... and i wanted one

id check out the rane empath... probably one of the absolute top mixers on the market.... especaially the rotary version!

I listened to some sonys and I really didn't like them.
The AKG K181 got 5 stars in djmag for their great sound and comfort, and on head-fi the little brother, the AKG K81, is somewhat of a little champion. Some users say that the K81 are "the best sounding under 100$ headphones" so I can only guess that the bigger brother, the k181, is a great performer. I will take the risk and see if they are worth the 199$ :D

As for the cdj, I will surely stick with the Pioneer CDJ 800 MK2, the main reason being that the CDJ 800 MK2 and the similar and more feature packed CDJ 1000 MK3 are the most popular cdjs in clubs.

As for the mixer, a friend of mine got an Ecler NUO 4 and he is damn impressed, build quality = allen & heat , sound quality better than allen & heat, the features are wicked and overall he is extremely pleased with the mixer (bare in mind that these words are coming from an ex-Allen & Heat Xone 62 user), so I can only guess that the more evolved Ecler NUO 5 is a top peace of gear.
Also on the mixer list are the Pioneer DJM 600, Denon X-1500 and the Allen & Heat Xone 32 or the Allen & Heat Xone 62.
I really don't think that the Ranes will be too good for me as I hear they are more oriented to scratch mixing...

Also, thanks for the agiprodj link, but I really prefer the topdjgear site as they look more serious and for a couple of bucks I really don't want to take the risk from a site I don't know anything about.

If you have any suggestions please reaply.
I'm not yet sure that the Ecler NUO 5 is the perfect mixer for me, should I take the bet?
Are there any Ecler users on this forum ?

Saadly I don't have the money for the DJM-800 :(
Should I get the DJM-800 and instead of the two CDJ 800 MK2 get two CDJ 200 ? Is this worth it?

You will regret that choice...
AndreiD
Sooo... CDJ 800 MK2 + Ecler NUO 5 + AKG K181 it is :D
I will post some pics with the set-up in the pics set when I get it :tongue2

Just out of curiosity, how come no-one suggested to andrei to go for the CDj200? I mean the only thing they lack is a vinyl emulation feature, but they make up for it with the FX (albeit very basic ones).

Considering his financial situation, it may be better to save up money on the CDJs by downgrading to CDJ200, and then improving the headphones or mixer?
AndreiD
So I should get 2 x CDJ 200 and a better mixer?
Btw, that is all the difference between the CDJ 200 and the CDJ 800 MK2?

I see the cdj 200 doesn't have a couple of loop buttons.
