who knew your amp or your DVD player needed some kind of magic box inside it to decode surround sound?? so now i have this awesome surround sound setup with only 2.0 sound. fvcking gay. cant believe i spent all that time and energy cutting speaker wire too.

| id say that's ignorance on your part :P i would've thought that's common knowledge! now get your hands on a real amp/receiver.. with a dolby digital and more importantly a DTS decoder.. |

oh definitely my fault! :D
no, i wont be buying a new amp, i'll prob get a new dvd player. i bought my DVD 6 years ago and never had the need for 5.1 til now, so hadnt done any research on the matter. i assumed my expensive piece of had all the decoder stuff in it. but apparently not. |

| dont think that'll help unless the dvd player has receiver built in. surely your current dvd player has coax/optical out to hook up to a receiver? |

the only ones with DTS decoders are ones that are amps themselves, so you'll have to redo your speaker wire to the dvd player! and normally those are the ones in the home theatre in a box set.
and if you were gonna use 3 pairs+ of analog rca outputs from your dvd player to your amp, then you're losing quality and losing the point of having a digital signal. |

Well he apparently already has speakers, which I'm assuming are decent. Yamaha's low end stuff is well renowned, or with slightly more money, can get a nice panasonic receiver with video switching. If you have more money again, then more options open up, but your return starts to diminish the more you spend, so you have to basically keep doubling money to get a difference. |
