Online Community research - Survey

Hello all! Let me introduce myself a bit before I rush into other things.

My name is Sebastiaan and I study Information Sciences at the University of Utrecht in The Netherlands. For my final Bachelor assignment I'm doing research on online communities. The focus is on opinions on website features used in online (dance and game) communities such as this community.

I would be very pleased if you all could help me out and fill in a small survey I made. It won't take much of your time and I really hope you can give me some honoust opinions on this topic. That would be very helpfull.

The survey can be found here and is in English: http://www.thesistools.com/?qid=34811&ln=eng

Feel free to send me any questions, suggestions or remarks by pm or just reply here.

Thanks a lot in advance!

O, and it would be nice if you could leave a message in this topic if you completed the survey. Much easier for me to see how many respondants I got :)

I took your survey. :)

Took about 5 mins (if that) for anyone else wondering.

I took it, but a couple of tips from another online researcher....

radio buttons are not always the way to go, try out some pull down menus when there are a lotta options...like more than 3 or 4.

also, I doubt that site does it, but there are ways in php that if you select an answer...say that you only visit TA...that the follow questions will only pertain to TA...but you have to know your php. so this might be a moot point.

and finally, make sure on your pull down menus that the default first option...the one that is automatically selected...is something like 'select one'...I noticed for example that gender was selected male...if someone fails to answer the question then it is assumed they are male. instead by making it select one, you know the people that didn't answer.

cheers.

Thanks for the comments! Next time I'll keep the thing about radio and dropdown boxes in mind. I don't think it's a good thing to change the survey now. But for next time I'll keep it in mind. Thanks for pointing that out!

As for the php, I know those things are possible. Unfortunately we didn't have the time to code something like that. So we choose for this option. It's not exactly thre most accurate way, but we have to deal with it for now.

Thanks for your comments, they're really usefull!

And thanks to all for participating, it's really appreciated!

Please keep them coming :)

Your original post was written too professional, and made me feel intimidated. The sterile aesthetics of the website, and its opening page asking for my email made me uninterested in continuing.

I got to the page that starts with question 10 where it was a bunch of clicking all about websites i didnt know or care about, and i definitely did not touch this page. I mean i could have gone down and clicked never never enver never enve fnenvenvnevnewn, but i didnt feel like it.

I am making this post to document to you how I as a "consumer" experienced this test, as it is possible others have a similar experience.

You don't have to procide your emailadres, you can also use a nickname or something. It's just a thing of the website we used to host or survey. Unfortunately this also comes with te sterile aesthetics.

Sorry to hear you didn't want to complete the survey. I know in some points there is some clicking involved, but those are things we want to research. Thanks for taking a look though and I really hope others will feel different and help me out here.

Thanks to all for participating, means a lot!
