Don't worry about what you drive unless you have way too much money. Remember any car you drive when the bill comes each month be prepared. :p , forgot to mention insurance, gas, oil changes, small + large fixes, and then accidents if your prone to them.

10k for a 98??? are they crazy? I assume you meant 1k.... with 4 k down you might be able to get in a preowned for 200 to 250 depending on the make. You might be able to get in on some lease programs from different companies as well. Like I sell for Audi and our current lease is around 5800 down you get an A4 10K miles a year for 299 plus tax. You should be able to get in on something like a VW or honda lease with that kinda of cash down.
If you trade the SUV in you will prob only get 500 bucks for it. FYI..
