but in retrospect...

I blame it on the underdeveloped 'gaydars' of that era.
Nowadays all sorts of celebrities are being labeled as homosexuals despite all their numerous female conquests. (Tom Cruise, Ricky Martin, John Travolta etc.)

Not really. I believe your point is correct for most cases, but not all.
Even my my best friend confidante, Annette in MTL whom is lesbian and my friend for nearly 20 years disagrees. Don't tell me you actually believe this, or have never come across a woman who sucks well. Women know how do it just as "properly" as gay men.
And any straight guy that gets himself into a situation where another guy slides off his pants and sucks him off hasn't been straight for a while. So again, it's not the gay guy's ability to suck that turned him.

I've heard that assumption before, from a friend who finally came out of the closet, and from a lesbo I was trying to tackle. I countered by mentioning the only reason they think homosexual oral sex is 'better' is because their natural attraction to the other person and hence, increased psychological/physiological enjoyment.
They debated this aggressively (as if trying to convince me that the oral sex I enjoy will never equal theirs), until I mentioned that 'sucking dick' or 'yamming gitch' is probably not innate, and as such gets better with experience regardless.
I doubt an 18 year will ever outperform a 35 year old who has eroded away all gag reflex.
