I spread my stuff over 8 channels with the odd channels going into 1 channel on the mixer and the evens going into channel 2. Most DJs only uses 2 channels within ableton and just move tracks into those channels as they want to play them.

I have even more respect for ableton now. Haven't seen it in action like that. They way Graham used it seemed much more different than when Sheridan played it. Even had a bit of James Zabiela style.

No prob friend-any time!!! Its always a pleasure to see you guys!

Now as for Max Graham wow I have new found respect for this guy! Amazing skill on ableton and for a FACT I saw him using all 4 channels at once a bunch of times! He even sampled deadmau5's daft punk rmx for like 20 mins!!! I cant wait to see him again!

And as for George he also came thru with a dope set of trance. The crowd was waiting ALL NIGHT for trance and when he stepped up the energy went thru the roof!!

GREAT FRI NIGHT AT 1015!!!

hey how was George Acosta??? did any of you get to see him??

for me each virtual ableton channel has to have its own channel in the mixer, lots of guys use abelton virtually, by running lots of virtual ableton channels into one channel on the mixer and using the laptop (through the trackpad or a midi controller) to virtually mix the tracks within the computer... for me the virtual volumes in ableton never change, track one through four is all the way up volume wise (before clipping) and i mix as if its a live band sort of thing, the signal for each loop/track comes into the mixer hot and flat (eq) and i use the 800's volume, eq, gain and effex instead of the laptop... for me its the most natural way, closest to mixing records i can get while still enjoying the technological advantage of ableton. i don't want to mix in a laptop, or use effex in a laptop. so for me im basically mixing the signals live as i would if it was four turntables, the only difference between the way i do it and actually using four records/cd's is that the "beatmatching" is already set up. its well worth giving up the beatmatching aspect in order to gain ten times the flexibility of options abelton gives me to take my djing to a more creative level... the 800 being a part of the scenario is crucial, the filters and eq's on each channel very much give me the ability to lower one loop to just its bassline and raise another loop to just its high end percussion therefore creating new music as the night goes on... after so many years i just got bored mixing one track into the next..

hope this helps explain how it works for me

thanks for the kind words about SF :)

and i did actually have all four volumes up for most of the night save the breakdowns... usually keeping energetic percussion going from a track that might have ended two or three songs before... at any given time its usually two tracks and two loops... plus having all four volumes live and in your hand (no laptop mixing) allows you to pull three down at the same time and really adjust the volume as you hear all four loops combine in the monitors... also possible with a midi controller but i much prefer the feel of the pioneer to a plastic controller.

i also think the sound would be better the way i do it that running all four virtual channels (or more i guess) into just one volume on the 800...

if you plan on mixing just 2 channels ya but a midi controller gives you more control over abelton live itself. the 800 has midi features that the 300 doesnt have

the 800 doesnt control abelton in my case (it can but...) you can use any mixer you like... i dont like to use a virtual system such as ableton to mix... i prefer to mix the sound with a proper mixer and i chose the 800 because its the most ergonomic effect laden beast out there...and rather easy to find in other countries

Hey Max... I thought you were using Serato? What happened? I know we talked on the Serato board.
