I feel bad for them, really.
The Pan-American Games are now being held in Rio, and the amount of Cuban athletes running away is impressive. It seems 5 Cubans managed to "disappear" and, because there were rumours of a mass desertion, all Cuban athletes are now being brought back to Cuba before the end of the Games...
I couldn't find an article in English, so here's something in Portuguese:
http://oglobo.globo.com/esportes/pa...2/296911361.asp
Spanish speaking TA's can probably understand most of what's written.
Poor lads :( |

This is a completely different history altogether. Here's an article in English:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/6920955.stm
And, the reason why they're running away is simple: life in Cuba seems to be tough. The only Cuban I've ever met (ironically, an illegal immigrant :p) used to tell me about the problems of living there, such as not being able to listen to music other than traditional Cuban music, restaurants being horrible because there's no competition (or reason to improve) and, more importantly, not being able to voice your opinion in any case. |
