HELP: ripping a DVD (pg. 2)

are the source discs dvd5 (single layer) or dvd9 (dual layer)?
if the source are dvd5 and you are burning to dvd5 (no compression needed) then use DVD Decrypter and create a disc image then burn the image to blank media.
if the source are dvd9 and you are burning to dvd5 then use DVD Shrink because it will compress video and you can remove unecessary subtitles and other bull (to make more room for video aka. less video compression).
if the source are dvd9 and you are burning to dvd9 (no compression needed) then im not sure. you might even get away with using nero but ive never burned dvd9 because i dont have a dvd9 burner.

That is not a straight forward procedure. I have not done it in a while, but I used to use Goridon Knot. |

DVD Decrypter is the program to use!
I also use to use DVD CLone I believe, or something like that to compress/delete info so they can fit onto one DVDR...
But I have a program called "Mac the Ripper" hahha which works wonders!

i use anydvd + clonedvd2
the anydvd automaticly decodes it ( just turn it on and it works) and the clonedvd is a 3 click process to rip it onto the hdd and then burn onto a dvd |

I use DVD Decrypter for everything. Why burn with a separate program when Decrypter does it too? |

to be honest, ive actually never tried burning with decrypter and i dont know if you can do all of this with decrypter as well but,
in clone DVD you can:
remove foreign language audio channels (like french and spanish), if you ripped a DL-DVD this will increase the available space, and result in a higher quality on the single layer disk, not the same as the original, but usually around 66% of the original.
remove subtitles as well, also increasing (though not by much) the available space for the actual movie.
again, dont know if you can do that in decrypter so dont kill me if you can. |

Hmm.. but when you rip with DVD decrypter, it already sizes it down so it fits onto the DVD, so the loss in quality happens when you rip, I don't really see how you can get it back after it's already been ripped. Please explain? I wouldn't mind ripping DVDs in higher quality and still having them fit onto a single-layer DVD-R. I never watch those extras and deleted scenes anyway. |
