Install it yourself and save money. That's what I did. Congrats on your pick-up tho, got pics?

What kind of car is it? I have a bunch of hookups in NJ, and can at least find you a really good shop in ny if need be. I'd offer to do it myself, but free time is very limited lately.

i would install it myself but if im going with indash navi i dont know exactly where to mount the locater.

i have the manual for the center console clips and removal, the only parts im apprehensive about is the gps locater mounting and steering wheel controls.

plus i dont want to pay crutchfield prices (even though they give me the matching bezel and harness) nor do I want to go to canal st for this. i wouldn't mind somewhere reputable for a decent price plus install if its in and or around crutchfields price walking out.

frank - shops in ny? if you can hook it up, i have a few things to do all together, tints, jdm turn signal mirror replacements, double din indash navi, and down the line trd lowering springs(or if coilovers come out) and rims.

car - 07 camry se

and before you all start saying oh you damn asian stop being asian with you're ricemobile...im going for the VIP clean style look with a sporty touch so you bet your asshats a yakima snowboard rack is going on that bitch.

hmmm....I gotta look into NY shops for you. Most stores rape you on installation for navigation, let alone in NY. I use a place called Streeteffectz down here in jerz for all my car audio needs. They used to be in my home town, but now they're in Union on route 22. The head installers (Ron and Dave) are ing amazing fabricators, and very honest guys. They will not screw you on the install price at all; not necessarily a DEAL, but will service the vehicle properly and not anything up.

They did the install on my Mazda 6:

thats some nice work there, esp the trunk work - you got any dynamat running?

is that HU mount fiber'd or does the 6 come like that with the hu so far up on the console? presume the single din above the ac controls is an eq where the normal hu would go? also the kick panel with the 5.25" + tweeters is a real nice touch, presume thats fiber'd too?

fab work isn't all that hard, it's the color tone matching and fiberglass/bondo sanding that really is the pain in the ass.

my job isn't so much custom but more going for a factory look n feel. the mp3 hu that came with it is weak, it serves its purpose right now, but before the end of the year i wanna dump that indash double din navi/dvd/bluetooth/mp3 unit in.

I use Raaammat BXT (butyl-based instead of tar based). I know the guy who makes it, and he's awesome. The product is comparable to dynamat extreme, but more flexible and requires no heating. I have 3-4 layers on my trunk lid, 2 layers on the trunk floor, and 2 on the sides of the trunk, and it still rattles. I have 4 layers on my front driver's side door w/ this foam sound deadener (it's a fabric, not a spray) and it's unbelievably solid. Ihave 2 layers on my passenger side; really need to finish it up.

The HU up top has been replaced with a newer alpine, but it used to be a map pocket. That's 100% fiberglassed up there. The piece about the a/c controls is a PXA-h701, which has a a stereo 31-band EQ on each of its 8 outputs. Basically a full range of crossover points as well, with slopes up to 24db. Time alignment control is excellent on the piece as well. The brain for that piece is hidden in the trunk. The work to install the eq there was massive, because you cannot remove the factory HU/AC because they share a circuit board. Essentially, they cut a hole for the EQ and its wire, and reglassed the whole thing.

The kicks actually house 3" dome mids and a tweet, with the 6.5" midrange put in the door. Essentially no foot space was lost. Sound stage is nice and high, and very wide.

You're right, it's not a DIFFICULT process persay, but extremely time consuming and somewhat artistic to make it flow right (in terms of angles and ). Also very easy to break if you aren't careful. I just ran the wires, did the sound deadening, and built the sub box (they built a 'glass fascia for it, but I built the internals).

Which piece are you looking at for your HU/Navi?

Pioneer AVIC-D3

my only worry is that on my camry, the double din is so far up on the console, im not sure i want to have that showing in plain view then again for the most part the car is going to be stored at my parents place in queens which i think is relatively safe.

Thanks man. All speakers are DLS; they're a purely audio company from sweden. I guess they're pretty comparable to dynaudio, but slightly brighter front stage. The subs are very tight/punchy, and get plenty low in a fairly small box (.85 ft^3 per chamber before displacement). 1500w on the subs alone = deaf by age 30 :)
