Using an outboard lexicon reverb unit in Logic pro 7... How do I bus out to stereo?

After hearing the sound of the lexicon pmc reverb unit I want to buy one used.
Here is the problem:
-Reverb units are usually used as sends. Especially if you have a good reverb like a lexicon pmc you would want to use that on multiple tracks.
-Logic pro does not allow you to bus out to stereo.
-It would seem that I would need a mixer and multiple d/a convertors just so that I could patch the outboard unit and use it as a send return on the tracks.
Well this is too expensive for me right now. Not only that but most budget mixers introduce a lot of noise in the mix. So mixing inside the box is better unless you have A LOT of money to spend on a proper board.
Another idea would be to ditch logic and go the cubase route.
I am not sure but from what I hear configuring a reverb in cubase is easy.
Cubase 4 is probably an awesome application. It was bought by yamaha which is a pro-audio company that focuses on pro-audio stuff not itunes ipod iphones itvs and the rest of the i!
But if I move to cubase all my patches, all my soft synths, all my templates will be gone.
I would have to start all over again :(
Not only that but I would lose the sidechain capabilities of logic...
Any ideas or suggestions are welcome! |

| Yeah. bummer.... I run my lexicon they way you want it in cubase. Works perfect. Either using digital or analog connections. I got a multiple out sound card, and allows me to patch hardware in. Up to 4 stereo units. What card you go right now? You can run the pcm digital, so maybe you can use the spdif or AES/EBU Digital I/O out's on your current card for that purpose, and use the analog outs to your monitors. And the analog in - for whatever hardware you got or not.. |

Another idea would be getting a lot of ram and a copy of cubase and rewiring the two so that the actual mixdown happens in cubase.
This way I could use outboard as send returns.
I am not sure how well that would work. If anybody has done it post how well it worked.
I do not want to give up logic at all.
So I might run both. I would be able to use all the stuff that comes with cubase as well. |

I run my lexicon's along with other outboard gear this way in Logic all the time no problem.
I have my Lexicon setup so that (soundcard channels 23-24 out) go to the unit's input... and (soundcard channels 23-24 in) come back in.
The in Logic create a stereo bus. On this bus insert the I/O plugin using the correct ins/outs for the unit.
Then any other channel in Logic you can just set the sends to point at the bus object you created.
works like a charm. I do the same for my outboard compressors etc. |
