lol. just how many of those tracks that do you actually play?
just curious |
well, seeing as i'm booked mostly to play openers - it limits me to playing like half of my tracks. and out of those 50%, half of those are somewhat dated. it's tough to say really.
i have all of those tracks cataloged, and burned onto cd's in order chronologically (currently 1 through 142) and always bring all of them to gigs. i find myself reaching back for the oldies pretty often actually. |

Consequences for labels, artists and distributors, as well as download retailers and ultimately customers, could be severe."
The DDA is threatening to dump labels who "join a blanket exclusivity arrangement" since it "would not be economically viable for us to continue to stock repertoire from labels" who [accept said arrangement]." The letter to participating labels also goes on to warn: "The loss of the support and promotion of seven major UK online dance retailers (as well as our many affiliate stores) will undoubtedly have a major impact on your label's and artists' profiles across the web, as well as your ability to maximise additional revenue streams such as compilations and licensing. Leaving customers without the choice of where to buy your music could also increase the chances of your music being traded through P2P networks stimulating a rise in dance music piracy."

Let me get this straight - the DDA is threatening to dump the labels that sign an exclusivity arrangement with beatport? In signing, isn't that the intention of the labels anyways - to be offered only on beatport? |

i didn't know the $2.49 tunes were exclusive to beatport..i always wondered--thought maybe some producers thought their tunes were worth more, lol.
|
Lol, I couldn't figure that one out either...
Just like any company dominating their industry, they have the ability to throw their weight around a little more. I also laugh at the term "exclusive" when tracks are on beatport lol. |

| beatport no longer caters to the small labels now though. u have to make at loeast 200 off a release and they dont even accept small indie labels anymore. at least this is what i have been told from the labels im on. still the best site to download on to me though and then djdownload is also very good |

dude, there are 6454 labels on beatport.
i'm willing to bet the average person would consider more than half of those labels 'small', even miniscule. |

(that's roughly two tracks per day, ). |
I am about the same - but I buy every kind of music from beatport, a lot of which I'd never play - deep house, downtempo, breaks - I can find it all there.
As an aside, the R U OK remixes are out! Niiiice. (havent been on in a few weeks) |

that is something i forgot to mention, downtempo stuff - and really off the wall experimental that i would likely never play out (but enjoy) has been purchased as well. |

why the hell would any label only want to be on beatport? there are many other download sites that people use a lot. thats just not good business sence |

Not necessarily owned -- it could be the case that the exclusivity applies to all releases from date X whereas the back catalogue is still open to all. |

I was thinking that after I posted.
I guess I just don't fully understand what the exclusivity agreement entails.... |
