Severe thunderstorm watch for: City of Toronto
Issued at 8:25 AM EDT FRIDAY 3 AUGUST 2007
ISOLATED SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS THIS MORNING. THIS IS AN ALERT TO THE POTENTIAL DEVELOPMENT OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS. MONITOR WEATHER CONDITIONS..LISTEN FOR UPDATED STATEMENTS. IF THREATENING WEATHER APPROACHES TAKE IMMEDIATE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS.
A COLD FRONT FROM PETAWAWA TO SARNIA EARLY THIS MORNING WILL MOVE SLOWLY SOUTHWARD TODAY. ISOLATE THUNDERSTORMS ARE BEING GENERATED ALONG THE COLD FRONT. THE INDIVIDUAL STORMS ARE TRACKING TO THE NORTHEAST WITH TORRENTIAL DOWNPOURS..LARGE HAIL..AND DAMAGING WIND GUSTS BEING THE MAIN THREATS. CONDITIONS ARE ALSO FAVOURABLE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FURTHER SOUTH OF THE COLD FRONT..WHERE STORMS ARE FORMING MAINLY OVER EXTREME EASTERN ONTARIO. THESE STORMS ARE MOVING SLOWLY TO THE EAST WITH TORRENTIAL DOWNPOURS OF 50 MILLIMETRES OR MORE PER HOUR..LARGE HAIL..AND DAMAGING WIND GUSTS BEING THE MAIN THREATS. THUNDERSTORMS ARE LIKELY TO WEAKEN THIS MORNING THEN REINTENSIFY ALONG THE COLD FRONT THIS AFTERNOON.

Severe thunderstorm watch for
City of Toronto continued
Isolated severe thunderstorms this morning.
This is an alert to the potential development of severe thunderstorms with large hail and damaging winds.
Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated statements. If threatening weather approaches take immediate safety precautions.
At 9.20 AM radar indicates that several severe thunderstorms have moved east of the City of Ottawa and are heading towards the towns of Rockland and Hawkesbury. The radar indicates that these severe thunderstorms are producing rainfall amounts of 50 to 100 millimetres per hour. Quarter-sized hail was reported with this storm in Kemptville. Damaging wind gusts of 90 km/h are also possible with these storms.
A cold front from Petawawa to Sarnia early this morning will move slowly southward today. Isolate thunderstorms are being generated along the cold front. The individual storms are tracking to the northeast with torrential downpours..Large hail..And damaging wind gusts being the main threats.
Conditions are also favourable for severe thunderstorms further south of the cold front..Where storms are forming mainly over extreme eastern Ontario. These storms are moving slowly to the east with torrential downpours of 50 millimetres or more per hour..Large hail..And damaging wind gusts being the main threats.
Thunderstorms are likely to weaken this morning then reintensify along the cold front this afternoon. |
