steampowered.com just added the entire ID Games catalog. $4-10$ for the classic games (Doom1,2, Quake 1-2) as well as Quake 3, all of which are STILL extremely active on multiplayer
there's also Starcraft, Command/Conquer Red Alert1/2. Also, free korean games (gunbound, maple story) which are pretty much RPGs

Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood Of Steel
Best game ever, imo.
As for other suggestions:
Unreal Tournament - My favorite FPS along with CS (which I haven't played in years).
Silent Hill series - Best horror game series out there.
Deus Ex - Great FPS with some RPG elements and extraordinary story.
Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed - My favorite NFS, unfortunately I can't run it on XP. :(
Fallout series - Like I said, Tactics is my favorite game overall, 1 & 2 being close to the top.
Kingpin: Life Of Crime - Very good gangsta/thug/crime themed FPS.

Yes, it's a lot better. Single player is fun only for the first time, then you advance to battle.net and there's no going back. Okay, there is, but it's still addictive as hell. At least it used to be back in the time of 1.09 and start of 1.10, I don't know how it is now.

Some good lists there.
Someone already mentioned it, but def. check out FarCry. It came out a year before HL2 and Doom 3, but it definately started the next-gen back then. Some of the most amazing action you will find in a game.
Crysis (soon to be released, from same devs) is going to take games to the next level again.
I want another Max Payne game!
I still play StarCraft more than anything. |

im still going through BroodWar for the first time. currently on the final (Zerg) campaign, and it's being a bitch to bring Duran to the ing 5 spots. i'm running low on resources, and the ing reavers keep coming!
edit: had forgotten about Max Payne. played it a couple times and loved it, will get that too. |

Far Cry- an older game, but still great (Crysis is going to be incredible).
Company of Heroes- best RTS game, period.
FEAR and extraction expansion.
Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter
Splinter Cell- Chaos Theory- esp with Shader Model 3 shaders
Half Life II
Doom III
