I can help you on SIngapore. I am living here now, and have been for almost 3 months.
As for partying:
Zouk, Velvet Underground,Attica & The cannery and most places in Clarke Quay are decent. The music quality isnt exactly banging, but Zouk does bring in some international talent.
Food:
This place has the craziest food ever, everything you eat will be excellent and cheap, portions are small but just buy more. Because of the cultural makeup of this place, there is no bonafide Singaporean cuisine, except Chicken Rice, which is terrible, overrated, and not worth the 2.50 its costs. Basically if you see a parched, white dead chicken hanging somewhere; it is a chicken rice place - keep walking.
All Indian food, Southern and Northern are always FANTASTIC, as well Malay food. Ordering can be difficult at times, but there are generally pictures that accompany everything. Seriously, eat anywhere, the standard of quality and taste is high dont worry about carrying around a bottle of pepto bismal.
Things to see:
Emerald Hill, The Worlds coolest COMPLETELY FAKE BEACH is Sentosa, Orchard is good for shopping; sell your car before you go there everything is extremely expensive, Clarke Quay is a good place to grab a drink, Boat Quay is a nice place to have a nice scenic dinner.
Transport:
either buy a "top-up" card for the MRT/BUS - very simple system to use just ask someone to explain it who works at the ticket counter. Trust me they will help they want your money.
But if you've got a generous budget, seriously just use cabs, they are sooo much cheaper than in Canada.
I dont know how much time you have but consider going to Bintan, it is an indonesian island 45 minutes by boat from Singapore, very nice place - nice people, excellent food and REALLY NICE HOTELS
Cigarettes - expensive
Alcohol - Expensive, so DRINK TIGER BEER - it is very good
Drugs - you will be killed if you are caught.
if you want more help or have other questions answered I would be more than willing to help. |

wtf dude... Singapore chilli crab FTW! As for chicken rice... I love it! However I had better chicken rice in KL, and its origin is Hainan China (hence it's called Hainanese Chicken Rice). |

dude, well aware of the Hainanese part of the Chicken Rice' roots, doesnt change that it is white rice, with 3 spices steamed with a plain, boiled chop Chicken.
yeah chili crab is dope...satay, mutton, mee goreng, Roti jon, hong kong noodles & and tea in a bag is pretty good too...oh and S'pore has an endless supply of different Roti Prathas - breakfast all the way to desert; all of which is really good.
oh and I forgot to mention Arab Street as a cool place to go...good food, go to the place that has a HUGE sign that says "BEST MUSLIM RESTAURANT IN SINGAPORE"...because it really is. |
