Dear All,
If been using Ableton now for about 6 month and Im facing a stooped problem right now and I really don't know what do or how to solve it.
When i work on any project it takes hours working in Ableton ad maybe after pressing the PLAY button fro the 36th time the Sound begines to click click click .When I go to the preferences menu and try to play in the input or output buffer although they were automatically set nothing changed and the Sound keeps clicking.
What i always do in this problem is I save and restart the pc and everything is ok ???:conf:
-This issue never happened to me while using my on board sound card and now after I bout an Echo audio fire 4 i face these clicks and i dont think that the on board is better than the audiofire
-Also I tried Reason on the same pc with no problems
any help would be appriciated
thanks in advance

in the audio tab of ableton trying moving the buffer size around. i'm at 256 and doing fine on my motu ultralite.

if anything at the bottom of the audio tab there is a 'test tone' at X%. move that around and see if the same clicks occur.

if not, probably just your buffer size. also i noticed on my motu i can't run other audio programs(full blast) at the same time as ableton. are you playing something in winamp while you work in ableton?

Try disabling your onboard sound in both windows and your BIOS. I did that and it made a HUGE difference. (was running onboard, now running Audiofire8) Unfortunately my computer is still a bit slow, so that's next to get upgraded.

I'm so glad you posted this question. I get the same bull with my version of Ableton Live 6.07. What happens is after about 30 minutes of using the program, whenever I play the sound clicks and goes kinda staticy at random times and I can't work with that going on. Plus, it slows the program down as well. So what I do is save my project and close Ableton. I hit crtl+alt+del and select ableton607.exe and close it. Then, when I open it up again, everything works fine.

My current assumption is that the program goes retarded and for some reason, opens itself up again eating away at the memory of the computer. This results in the clicks and the slow cpu. I hope that helps and anyone else, who can finally resolve this issue, your help would be immensely appreciated!

i reported the same clicks on ableton's forum not too long ago and everyone said it was when ableton competed with outside audio(myspace, mp3 players, movies, etc).

no solution has been posted yet but i do believe ableton knows about it.

I can't help, but yes, this problem happens with Ableton 5 as well. It's quite annoying. I'll have to try disabling everything else running in the background. I'd really like to use it for live dj'ing, and I don't want to keep having to come up with creative reasons as to why my sets are always only a half hour long.

"It's just my style, you know? Short and sweet! Those dj's with their four hour sets are stoopid!"

Heh heh.

Wow! And I thought I was the only one having an issue with the program. I think Ableton is lying, when they say its competing with another audio program. The most likely culprit is faulty programming, which is really disappointing, since we dish out so much money for this piece of software. I think I'm gonna write them a letter and it would be great if others, who are experiencing the problem do the same. This way they will do something about it in a reasonable amount of time.

it's never given me problems on my laptop, but i'm only using on board fx(ableton plugs) and NOTHING else is running on windows.

i've emailed ableton, i have a feeling 6.07 will be the last update before 7.0

Out of curiosity, a few questions for those that have posted and have this issue:

PC or Mac?
Processor speed and RAM
What audio interface?
MERiDiAN5i2
thats when I scream "get a turntable, ya nerd!" :P

I'd guess...
a) Live is screwing up it's audio output buffers, either in the audio output stages or in it's ASIO routines.
b) Live is choking on a plugin.
