Midi Velocity Info

I was wondering what is the velocity of midi equal to the same volume of a mastered 16 Bit Wav sample. I notice that the velocity goes up to 127 but can cause distortion, what number is best?
Also, is there a loss in quality in using midi to triger samples from a sampler rather than using raw samples in the sequencer? |

That would depend on the volume of your synth / sampler and what other stuff you have playing at the same time in the same frequency range. There's no single "best velocity" for all occasions.
