hey guys, i know we have a thread for studio pics but thats more for showing off. i actually got some really good advice from djdirty in there last time, but hoping for a bit more.
i recently bought a novation remote sl... 25. yes, 25. i bought 25 to use with my live shows, i don't want to carry around a big board to gigs, when i travel etc.
now, the auto map on this board is simply AMAZING. however i miss having my regular 5 octave board(shown below) at my disposal. money really isn't a concern(but anything over a $1000 is just stupid) but how can i incorporate this board back in my studio?
the desk is an ikea jerker, which oddly enough isn't on their site anymore so i don't even know if they carry it anymore? i was thinking about buying 1 more table top. move up the current table top, leave everything on it that it is now except cut maybe 12" of depth(width?) and have my 5 octave board sit below it.
i'm also thinking about getting rid of my TV, since i don't even have cable. maybe put a keyboard stand over there and leave room for an instrument rack(if i ever get that far with hardware).
any other solutions i might be missing?
with the sl:

a keyboard tray will give you more desktop space but less legroom (if that is an issue, usually 26" from the bottom of the tray to the ground is enough room). Put the LCDs all the way against the wall and try to make as much space as possible in front of the synth there. Then you can probably use that space as a temporary place to set the keyboard when you want to use it. You can just slide the synth and lil keyboard back up front when you want those, or I guess stand up when you want all 3 lol. |

haha, i'm actually toying around with the idea of selling these monitors and buying a plasma/large lcd and mounting it on my wall... maybe then i'll just tier the desk if i want to, MOVE my speakers infront(instead of on the sides) and call it a day. |

Teh Idea of the plasma is also not bad but this is if you can work with only one monitor..Some people luv to work with two even if they are 14 inch :p |

my dream desk would only have one controller on the desktop, right behind the keyboard. Then that would be in front of a very large touch screen lcd that I look down on at an angle. ha fuk the keyboard, someone needs to make a touch screen midi controller. |

A few things crossed my mind...
build a second desktop of 1/2 or 2/3 the depth and 5-6" high and put it on top to make a tiered arrangement. (Guess you mentioned that)
Keyboard tray, if the jerker tabletop is height adjustable? (is it?)
Modify (widen) keyboard tray kit and hang the M-audio underneath, if it isn't too wide. Pull it out when ya need it
Mount monitors on wall. Bam. Desktop space. (only if you don't move the desk around much, though)
Just throwing out some ideas...throw 'em back if you don't like 'em. :D |
