Sorry in advance for such a long post...

Got on the subway at 135th (had no idea there were any problems). Waited 1/2 hour for a train. Train went exactly two stops in 45 minutes. Gave up, got out at 110th St.

Wandered down CPW, attempting to get a city bus or taxi for a half hour. HA!!! - along with a couple hundred other people.

At 103rd st, turned west towards a the 1 train (at this point I thought only the A/B/C/D lines were having problems). A friendly NYC cop was at the corner yelling "all trains are down" and I'm like "even the 1 train?" and he's like "ALL TRAINS ARE DOWN". Translated... You Stupid Twat, I Just Said ALL Trains Are Down, Now Shut. The . Up. And Start Walkin.

At this point i am completely drenched in sweat, but resigned to the fact that I'm just going to have to start walking, and walking, and walking. To 24th St. Can't miss work on the third freaking day.

Then, like a gift from jesus himself, a yellow school bus turns the corner and the driver (and a few people who were already inside) yells "get inside!", which at least 15 of us did, and quickly, without questioning. We didn't care if he was high on crystal meth, or a serial killer who was going to carry us to our deaths. He introduces himself as Hector, and announces that he'll be making two stops, 59th St and 42nd St. We cheer and say Thank You HECTAH. Immediately one of the passengers says "we need to take up a collection for Hector". Pretty much everyone put at least a few bucks in. He easily made $100 for his trouble. Everyone was just so happy to be MOVING. Traffic was insane, so it took forever to get to 42nd. As people got off, they thanked him by name, and fair number actually kissed his bald head.

Luckily the 1 train was running between 42nd and 14th, so I got to 24th st without too much trouble. Two and a half hours to go less than 8 miles.
