mortgages are bigger business.
that $250,000 place ends up costing more like half a mill when all is said and done. |

well... if thats teh only way you're going to get that asset, a house, what you gonna do.
you pay a price to aquire things you cant afford immediately.
i dont think wasting the same monthly payment on rent is any better... atleast w/ teh mortgage you're working towards owning something... rent... you got nothing to show afterwards. |

Well, yeah, but you build up equity in a mortgage. The house/condo has value when your mortgage is paid off (and usually much more than you paid); most likely, whatever you've charged to your credit card does not.
Of course the bank makes money, but it's a mutually beneficial arrangement, assuming one doesn't default. |

| I was pointing out that we make more money from mortgages then credit cards. i never said buying a house was a bad idea. |

I understand. I was just adding for the peanut gallery that people shouldn't necessarily avoid something just because someone else (i.e. the bank) is going to make money; the important question is, does it benefit YOU. :p |

| For rewards, I like the PC Financial Mastercard because they offer 10 points for every dollar purchased and the redemption is at 20,000 ($20 gift card for Loblaws/Superstore). I think I will start using this MC more than my Visa since the rewards accumulate much quicker. Up until now, I've been loyal to my RBC Visa, which has always been trouble free but now that I'm no longer a student, the points take longer to accumulate (1 point for $2).. |

yeah, the only think credit cards are useful for are building up your credit history for in the future getting a good morgage or other types of loan.
the rest of the time they cause stress. |

If you had the choice of being the top scientist in your field without a credit card, or having mad cow disease with a credit card, which would you chose?
