I live in NY and I seen advertisements for music production school in the city and I'm seriously considering taking those classes. I dont expect to get a job or anything from it just a better understanding of the recording proccess and the programs. I already know alot of about protools, ableton, midis, and reason so is it worth the time and money to actually take this course? If any of you have taken them can you tell me how your experience was?

This question gets asked a fair bit. Prepare for 10 replies telling you it's a waste of money. :p

The general consensus is that you can learn as much, just as quick, by experimenting and a few good books/tutorials. The only time you NEED to go to a school for this kind of thing, is where there is no way you can afford to buy the equipment yourself. Eg. high end mastering (usually a really well treated studio with stupidly expensive monitors, adc/dac, etc.) and band/orchestra recording.

I post on this forum alot I shouldve learned to use the search button by now. Thats exactly my problem I dont have the hardware to make any of my own stuff because Im still paying off my DJ equipment but at least if I take this course Ill have a real studio, hangout with a bunch of musically minded people, and my parents will pay for it anyways.
