no intentions of being rude, but i think buying a Mac and install Windows is a waste of time for a person who uses the computer just to type term papers and browse the internet. you can buy a regular pc laptop with almost the same specifications as a macbook, get it almost 40% cheaper, and you won't see a significant performance difference.

it also depends on your major in college, of course. if you're a graphics person, then mac it is. otherwise, get the vaio. i have a vaio right now, and i love it. it's light, the keyboard structure is very nice, and it has a classy exterior touch to it, compared to the others in the pc market (toshiba, compaq, dell, hp, acer, etc ...).

however, what you can do is save your term papers as .rtf (Rich Text Format), and it can be easily opened in both Mac and Windows OS (high school knowledge information there. lol)

That's more a Windows problem than a Mac problem :p

i think it's a bit of both problems. it's basically trying to fit the 3X3 block inside the 2X2 block hole. you can force it in by trying to jam it, or you can be inventive by taking a saw, and make the block hole a little bigger to fit the block, however, you don't know the consequences in making the hole bigger.

I know people who have thinkpads and get blue screens the first day on their T60Ps... Error messages are not always the hardware's fault.

btw, go with the mac book pro.

I thought the whole point of buying a mac was to get the OS. If thats not the case then normal PCs destroy macs price vs. performance.
