| That'll have nothing to do with the 'PlayStation driver'. More likely your poor PS2 is well on its way to disc read error heaven, i.e. it is gradually losing its ability to read discs. The internet holds numerous FAQs about this and there a number of fixes, however when my first one started dying none of them actually helped the problem (plus I couldn't be bothered after five minutes and bought a new one). |

blow it out really good inside and out with compressed air..
make sure your discs don't have any scratches on them...
try playing with the PS2 upside down..
If none of those work, buy yourself the new sexy silver version ;)

yeah, there are numerous walkthroughs about cleaning the bitch out.
the thing is, once the lens gets out of whack it only wants to read one or two of the possible file formats. you can change the gearing and check all of the formats, but often the readout wont stay the same. your ps2 CAN play ps1 games, but you need to adjust the laser to do that. and then it might not play ps2 games, CD or DVD or DVD movies. with a bunch of messing around you can get it to do all of the above, but its a pain| |

Your lens might be too low. Also, do you smoke in the same room ?
Part 1
Check also if it plays Ps2 games burned on CD-rom and not DvD.
Buy and use 4/5 times in a row a DvD lens cleaner with a soft brush on it. NO LIQUIDS
if no effect, part 2
part 2
console off, cd tray empty, unplugged from mains
Open the main cover by taking off the screws ( philips )hidden under the removable soft pads. Take the cover off by putting it along the right side while keeping an eye on the wire between the main deck and the on/off/reset switch.
part 3
Remove the Cd drive cover by taking off the 4 small philips screws.
Take a cotton bud + alcohol 100% proof, and clean the lens manually
place a ps 1 cd in, put the cover back on and do a test.
ifno effect, then part 4
take the cover off again. remove the disc. Carefully screw clockwise the screws right next to the lens, IF you have a compatible screwdriver. Run tests again.
part 5
put back together.. |
