Vinyl to digital - trouble with recordign in stereo

I've got a dj mixer output going to one of my interface's inputs (Focusrite Saffire). So, I've got 2 rca's going out to a TRS 1/4" in.
I'm trying to record in SoundForge - but can't record in mono at all (doesn't pick up the signal) and when I record in stereo it is just recording the right channel.
Question(s): I can get a stero signal from RCA to 1/4", yes? Any reason why mono isn't working, or that stereo only records the right channel?
Thx. |

2 RCA's to a SINGLE TRS 1/4" in?
That's what it seems you've typed.
If so:
In this situation, 1/4" TRS isn't stereo it's mono.
You CAN, however, get an RCA to 1/4" TS adapter. Since the RCA isn't balanced anyway (like TRS) then TS works just fine.
If not: Sorry for the misunderstanding and good luck to ya! :D |

| Thx. I thought I had a TRS on it... just double checked before I answered... it's TS. Either one should let me record a mono signal though - wouldn't they? Seems weird that I can't get that to pick up - even if it is TS. Thx for any help! |

| Question is, are you putting both RCA to one TRS (or TS) with some adapter? Or are you using what I had pictured above? |

I've tried two ways.
One with a single cord that is a rca on one end (r/l) and TRS on the other. Something like this... (if that is indeed a TRS 1/4" on the other end...)
The other is rca r/l going out, with a mono rca connector (like below), then a 1/4" connector connected to that (like the one you showed above).
In talking this out, I think the rca connector I'm using is designed to split a signal, not merge a signal... ?? Maybe that's where I'm off... |

Think I just realized something...
On the interface, I have a synth going into input 1, the dj mixer going into input two.
When I record in SoundForge w/mono - the synth records. When I record in SoundForge w/stereo - the dj mixer is the right channel, the synth is the left channel.
I think I've got to figure out how to tell SF that I wan it to record input 2 in mono... maybe it isn't the wiring. |

Cant split analog that's already been merged. Plus you lose anything that out of phase, and more.
Ray, I think your solution is to head down to radio shack and pick up a couple of these: Clicky!. One for each channel. Left into Left and Right into Right. No splitters or Y's or anything should be used.
:)
Edit: Okay, so then:
(Mixer Left) -> Input 1
(Mixr Right) -> Input 2 |
