I agree. I actually felt it coming a little while back...around spring time I guess. There's just been a certain buzz in the air that hasn't been here previously, imo.
I don't really know how to describe it, just that it feels like we're on the verge of something....just I dunno what! It's not related to the amount of events we have either. More like the music itself. |

| Seriously folks, he's right. All we ever get here is garbage like Daft Punk, Miguel Migs, Steve Lawler and Trentemøller. It's about time we got Kerri Chandler to liven things up a bit. |

Daft Punk...first time here in seven years
Miguel Migs...here once a year
Steve Lawler...here quarterly
And how much DOWNTIME is there between those events...?
Anyway, you obviously don't understand the point of the thread. Things are going to get EVEN BETTER!!! If you are ok with the status quo, that's fine, but not me...I've seen this city flourish and I've seen periods where there were amazing, mindblowing parties each weekend.
I guess your standards are a bit lower than mine... |

Ever since Sonic closed, I think yes, we've had a hole and a lack of excitment in the city. Where are the options?

we have had it and continue to have it better than most cities.. especially in North America. |
Agreed.
However, if you don't go to guvernment or TIL, that knocks back the options quite a bit.
Diginut, Kerri Chandler is playing Sept 1 at mod, you know that right? |

| What makes the 'stagnation' more evident is having the same artists cycle through the same venues... Part of the excitement comes from seeing a DJ in a new place -- IMO that was half the fun of raves years ago - i.e. not knowing what to expect once you walked in the doors, there was an instant mystique to it all. (and for those ready to jump on me and say that todays venue's have way better light/sound - yes, I know, but imo, many times that tradeoff doesn't make up for it) |

+1....when you walked through the doors you never knew what you were in for...the only thing you knew was there would be pumping music and you were ready to party all night long. It was rare that you would hear anyone complain that the sound wasn't great or the lighting sucked...you went there....partied....met new friends and bumped into old ones. |

So true. Same djs, same venues, WE NEED VARIETY. I haven't been too disappointed though because I haven't been hitting up the same venues every weekend, last time I went to Guv was for the mark o trance set, I had an ok time and before that in March/April. As for the mystique aspect for sure...I remember the first smirnoff experience, had only known a couple of the djs, the variety of styles of music and everything about it was just off the hook. We need more of that...or venues like Arrow Hall...Circa, etc. Things get super boring otherwise. (esp since there are no places like System where people can go to feel comfortable regularly as well as hit up the 'mysterious' types of parties) |

I'm with O.J, Karlo, and Jeff.
Plus, for all of those people saying that we have it good and should be grateful yada yada yada....
What is wrong with taking what is already good and wanting to make it better? Wanting more? Wanting to see our city become a prominent place amoungst the global scene? YES, we do have it pretty good....but why settle? |

personally i think we have it pretty much made in toronto.
over the last couple years ive been fortunate to see the cream of the crop as far as the EDM scene is concerned, come and play in toronto. Any why wouldnt they want to....Guvernment is the perfect mega-club for the artists to showcase their talents. Then you throw in places like MOD (who have been killin it with their fresh funky friday bookings), FW (the most intimate feelin possible in a venue) as well as places like Docks, Next Level, TIL, Hotel, and zone, amongst others, all bringing in top level talent. I agree that it seems like INK has a majority on most of what happens in this city, but with Circa openning up surely the pressure is on, and im sure Charles and the boys at INK have some secrets up their sleeves =P As good as we have it already, the future just continues to look brighter for the Toronto scene as far as im concerned :tongue2
although i still miss Sonic lol  |
