lol. so here's a question for the old and wise one: was your deployment worth it? like it? hate it? thoughts.

i'm kind of stuck here, just because of my job - our squadron isn't deployable, and as an LT here, i'm just in upgrade training and lead training and . so at my next assignment, then the "fun" starts (even tho i'm having fun now).

its still super early to even be thinking about it, because i've still got 2-3 years left on station, but a good chance is that my next ass. will be an army one (af wx does army support). and any army ass will get deployed.

right now, and i guess i've always been, i'm not really wanting to "raise my hand" to deploy. i mean, if i had to, i'd do it - but i'm not necessarily wanting to volunteer for it. i dunno.

in 2-3 years Iraq wont be the issue... we'll be in the midst of the downsizing then...

but to your question... it amazes me how different our careers turned out, and how miserable mine ended... and not b/c of Ft. Sill, but b/c of my in mind numbing POS brigade i was in....

i actually miss being in a deployable status... but again back to your question.... I hated every second of it, but looking back on it i think i would now appreceiate being over there more and know whats going on and not be ashamed to dive into ... meaning im not a brand new 2LT not trying to screw up kinda way...

i think that's one of the main reasons why they don't send us...and honestly, right now, even after being in for a year, i'd be kinda worried about screwing up something bad. weather is so ing hard sometimes, because in a high OPS tempo deployment, your weather forecasts can totally make or break an operation. and if you up hard....well....can we say, Operation Eagle Claw?

, even here @ my squadron...i mean, if you up a tornado or a hail forecast and people die because of it? or aircraft is damaged? man, i'll pass on that.

i've issued only one tornado warning, and the cell ended up dying right before it got to Salina, KS. it was one of the most nervewracking things i've ever done. :eyespop:

not to say anything bad... but i hate LTs. especially 2LTs. Man every one i met tried to micro manage everything i did. I always had to let them screw everything up then give my classic quote that i was known for , "Would you like me to do it the right way now?"

Hopefully you guys were not like that. OOOOOhhh what i hated even more then 2LT was cadets. I remember when i was a SPC there was one that came to my unit to train. I passed by her and she got all pissed off cuz i didn't salute. I said i was sorry then i saluted her...except i did it with only my middle finger :haha:

She got all ticked off and went to tell my 1SG. He told my CPT in which both them came up with a solution. From that point on I, actually my entire company, had to refer to her as "cadidiot". Stupid West point douche trying to make me salute her. HA!

FYI...

we had cadets from west point in my unit less than a month ago... by rule you are required to call them sir/ma'am... saluting is optional to them..

you too could have been a LT making double what you did, but you didnt...
