[progressive trance/320 kbps] Kindred Spirits - Makeshift
View this Thread in Original format

Hey guys,

As promised in this thread, I'd like to share another one of our new tracks:

Kindred Spirits - Makeshift

It took us a while to figure out which direction to take the track, but we finally managed to complete it. As usual, everything revolves around atmosphere. The track features a small guitar section performed by Jack as well.

More to come!

Now this is more like it

The track you previously posted didn't do much for me but this is one fantastic track, it pushes just the right buttons for me. I know I usually post a load of details I like/dislike but I can't really think of anything with this one. Though it would had been nice if it had gone on a bit longer with some extra element after the break.

I shall be playing this for quite a few times in the future.

I was expecting this to be more up your alley :)

Thanks a lot for the nice review!

When we are producing, we like to try out different techniques and ways of conveying a theme. That's why some of our tracks might be simple and straightforward while others build up in a much more subtle way. I'm probably going to disappoint you with this, but we've been exploring the more straightforward route lately with a few so-called 'neotrancers'. :p I'm a bit wary of posting those now, hehe.

I don't know, I've found myself going "back to basics" as well, so to speak. Then again it all depends on how much more straightforward you're going :p

Haha excellent track. Sounds like an awesome wilderness song. Great bass, great atmosphere, cool percussion and sounds. The break is great too. Damn. I'm just going to stop because I'd be repeating myself. Thanks for the great share.

Hiya TOR,

This is a really accomplished piece of work, I must say. I don't suppose you'd be able to send along some bits for me to have a go at a remix? It's unlikely that I can better your version, but it'd be nice to try and come up with something!

I've forwarded your request to Jack because I'm not in possession of the final mix and parts. It might take him a couple of days to up a pack though, as he seems to be quite busy atm. I'll get back to you asap ;)

@ dj_palm: neotrance is a form of trance that is based around minimal sounds and melodies, that does not resort to fancy filters or other effects to make the track "interesting". A good example would be the Aril Brikha album available @ Beatport.

Thanks for listening!

Thanks TOR. If it's too much trouble then don't worry! :)

Ah dude, that sounded really nice. Nice deep kick and bass, and a groovy perc line. Nice contrast with the offbeat screechy sample coming in at 2:30, makes you sit up and notice and nicely introduces the cool distorted guitar line. Song doesn't really go anywhere but I'm used to listening to that goes all over the place so it's actually kind of nice just relaxing back into the groove for the rest of the song. Nice work!

Great work! Forgot to review it earlier; but it has been in my playlist ever since you published the downloadlink :)

This time the kick is very good; something that lacked in some previous productions. The true strength however, lies in the strings used at 4 mins... It's a bit unfortunate it hasn't been used more often throughout the track; but luckily the other interesting elements make up for it.
I hope you'll continue to produce like this.

Would be interesting to see a remix of this as well :)

Listening...

I like the buildup, great percs used. Good atmosphere building as well..with the pads coming in.
The breakdown is good, but the guitar could probably have been a good bit louder IMO...overall I enjoyed the track..missed something to make it special and memorable, but it's a nice chill track. Good job.

Starts out a bit too minimally for me but then warms up a little. The use of the guitar is interesting IMO but I think it works. I think I would have preferred it if the progression was emphasised a little more, as it is the track seems a bit minimal and repetetive. Everything starts to work better once the strings come in I think, the progression there is very nice. I would maybe try throwing in a cello to emphasise the chord progression at the beginning, it may not work but its worth a shot:p

All that said, I can still appreciate the song for what it is, which is a fairly solid atmospheric track, but just not really my style.
