i just want to save my new demo cd that i recorded last night as a real audio file.. i have the mp3 but that is too big for u guys to download... so i want to make it a .ra file or watever so that even though the quality sucks ass, at least it will be pretty small.. or does anyone know where i can host a 58mb file for free?

to make a ra file u need Real Producer. it's free off real's site. However, the free version doesnt let you encode the mp3 to ra directly. It only encodes wavs

yah i know.. i just d/l that program.. im just using nero wave editor to convert the mp3 into wav.. i'm hoping no quality is lost cos it didn't let me choose any settings when i converted it.. oh well doesn't matter.. cos im converting it to real audio anyways which sounds like so its cool..

Internet audio mix does this!
Either wav or mp3 into ra!!!

Now what I am looking for, is a program that lets you cut parts out of .ra files?!?!? please....

PLEASE NOTE that even if you encode it as a real audio file, you will NOT be able to stream it. This requires Real Networks server software, which I believe is not free. Instead, all that will happen is that you will end up downloading the whole real audio file before you can play it.

That's weird coz I tried to download Hapamoto's mix but it streamed from the source. Cracked it somewhere, Hap? :D

I downloaded a RealAudio encoder/decoder plugin for Sound Forge 5.0 that works really well - since SF5 also does mp3's, its really great. I think I got it from Kazaa, just did a search for real audio plugin or something like that.

Also I believe there is a way to stream RealAudio without using Real Networks. I will find out and post later.

Well, you can kind of stream it, but not properly. What you can do is to use some kind of download manager like GetRight or something, and just open up the file and listen to it as it is downloading. You can't do this without a download manager generally, becuase Internet Explorer hides the partially downloaded file somewhere down in the bowels of temporary internet files somewhere, and doesn't copy it to the place you download it to until it finishes.

This isn't true streaming however, because you end up with the file on your computer at the end, and it uses all the bandwidth availabe. If you stream it then it limits the bandwidth to only as much as it needs and you also get buffering.

sorry guys.. i haven't been paying attention to this thread since i figured out how to get the real audio format which was quite simple w/ the real audio producer basic software thats free from their site.. just gotta convert the mp3 into a wav and ur set.. anyways there is a site called www.skoolhouse.com which hosts real audio mixes of 15mb or less.. and aparently it streems from their server.. i kinda don't like that because how can u save it if its streaming.. but watevers! its easy on those dial-uppers!
