I need some help, in 3 weeks i'll have my first gig in front of a live audience. What is the problem? Well the club manager gave me all the night, 6-8 h.I never did such a big gig.The radio show that i do is based on 2h gigs.
I mix especialy trance with influences from club, elektro or techno(depends on where i want my set to go).
So pls give me some advices.
I'm not afraid of the croud, but 6-8 h is a little to much for my first time.
Some advices will be much apreciated

That is a lot of time even if it isn't your first gig. I'd say first make sure you have enough music that fits the style of the club you're playing at. Then I'd say break it up into chunks. Start out slower with maybe some minimal techno, lower key stuff. Build it up to trance, don't just go right into it. End with some more chill stuff sinc it'll probably be pretty late by then. Maybe some deep loungy stuff or funky house.
Definitely break it up though.
Good luck! |

| Wow, thats a very long time. Try finding another DJ or two to split time with. You might not get paid as much (if you're even getting paid at all), but it might be worth it. |

practice playing 6-8 hours first
you should've done that before accepting the gig, there's a chance you could not be ready for this, especially if you're doubting yourself |

First off, what kind of club is it? Is it mainstream? Is it all EDM? Is it a bar? I'm asking this, because all these are major factors to a successful night. If for instance, it's an EDM oriented club, you have to warm up for your self, than bring in your A game. If it's a mainstream club, you really don't have time for that.

I had no problems standing on 6 hour gigs...7 hours and your legs start to hurt badly...
another thing is...if you don't know the club, go and check out a few nights in person, so you see what kind of crowd is there, what the people on the bar like (you'd not believe how big influence they sometimes have) and such stuff...measure how long it is till people are drunk as and don't care what the DJ is playing as long as they can do stupid moves on the floor...
that is the kinda break I am sometimes desperately waiting for, because you can relieve a bit, trainspotters are on the toilets...and such...you know...

Very good idea right here, If you have some friends who DJ.. See if they want to come in aswell. Should make life a lot easier on you and means your friend gets to play out also

I'm sorry man, But i got to disagree with you here.. I think everyones entitled to being a little nervous upon playing out for the first time it dosent have to mean there not ready fullstop.
Just relax man, Have a drink beforehand.. Plan the gig out and make sure you have more than you need (in terms of music) not the other way around. |

drink plenty of fluids, sleep beforehand, and cancel anything for the day after.
I usually do 6-7 hours. Worked last night from 10pm-6.30am and ive only just got up (3pm now), and I am used to it.
It will hit you very hard if you arent used to it. |

Yeah, 6-8 hours is tough, unless you are just background noise in a bar.
but congratulations at least for the gig, that has to be exciting |

Many tnx for the feedback
I was wandering if i should split the time with a friend who plays minimal and elektro, so we should have a night with many diferent styles of music.
The problem is that i spoke with the manager and the deal is like this: i can play all night at this party and if i do it right then i will be the resindent dj for that night every 2 weeks. That is why i think i will play alone. Is a chance.
It's my first night so i'll do my best.I'l practice playng 6h gig's and i hope everything will be ok :D |
