i don't really think it had to do with just the venue, his last viva show here was very successful, good turnout, he played for 4 hours, had those dark gothic gogo dancers which helped add to the mood (and were probably his idea for that matter), and he even got on the mic and gave use a shoutout saying "thank you LA, you've been magnificent."
so what really happened? just to say that he doesn't like the vanguard sound like a bunch of bull to me. |

Agree sounds like there is some other reason. |

But:
If that's his approach, maybe someone should tell him that Mansion in Miami is way less underground and not so musically inclined as the Vanguard crowd cause if he's going to pick and choose the right venues, he probably should cancel the Mansion show too while hes at it.
Vanguard is a bit bright but the sound kicks ass and the crowd wants proper music. I'm sure the lighting can be adjusted to fit. Then again, hes Steve Lawler for christ's sake, he can pick wherever he wants to play :D |
well said victor and lol josh. that is for real dark and seedy. but i would follow him anywhere he plays i don't care. he's the best imo :D |

| don't blame him the crowd at Vangaurd is way to commercial. Lawler is at his best when it's dark & dirty. |

When I saw him at ICE Las Vegas Jan 1, 2006. He was amazing, and that place wasn't dark, or underground. Probably one of the best club nights I have every been too.
Anyhow, when you are Steve Lawler, you can't be underground no more. He's too big. IMO
Sounds like there is more to the story. |

True
I was at Vanguard both Friday night and Saturday night. Vanguard does has the best sound system in LA however the LA crowd is very diverse.
Sat ngiht: There were too many people on the dancefloor that just stand there and did nothing!
I can see how that could frustrate or aggravate a dj that is playing banging tracks w/ patrons standing there with their two feet stuck to the ground, watching like its an opera or a sports match. |

I just got an email from Giant advertising Lawler at Club Vegas on Sept 13th. And according to Giant's site, he's in San Diego on the 14th.
