The rumors are true. (Well, most of 'em, anyway.) Dave has emerged from his underground lair (the Dave Cave?) with a fresh take on a classic, the all new Prophet '08. It is an eight-voice synthesizer with a 100% analog audio signal path. And it will be shipping very soon. More details will be available here on the Web site in a few days. Following hot on its heels will be the Prophet '08 Special Edition, each of which will be hand-signed by Dave and which will feature lighted wheels (RED!) and exotic leopardwood end panels. And for those of you who are wondering what happened to BoomChik, stay calm. Do not panic. Development is progressing nicely. Stay tuned!

i have to agree with this. In a vst, it'd probably be popular, but as hardware, i don't see why anyone would really want to cluter there studio with another synth, unless it really has something special to offer.

I don't think Dave made this with us "youngtimers" in mind really.. The prophet was one of the most lusted after synths in it's time, and there were not that many made, and it was really expensive. Now (with their pockets stuffed with cash) the seniors will have another chance to own a prophet in all it's glory. (almost)

I know I would buy the yamaha cs80 is it was ever to be made a modern version. I'd play vangelis tunes till I'd drop. :D

There is obviously a large enough target market to justify DSI making it. A lot of people on VSE seem reasonably excited by it.

And for every person who wants a VA like a Virus; there is someone who wouldn't touch one with a bargepole and wants old analogue gear; and someone who wants a generic Triton etc.

plus the original prophet never really worked well..it sounded good but has so many problems that a lot of people couldn't afford to keep them. The maintenance was too much. the second build was different, it had an auto tuning function that allowed you to re tune the thing with a press of a button. Making an old synth again isn't a bad thing. It brings the sound of the past to a newer audience.

I'll bet some dude buys one and makes a serious track with an amazing lead or something...then the forums break loose on how to make that lead...the noobs and all the rest of us find out its the new Prophet...then bang you go and buy one. Probably not very true but hey look at the supersaw and the JP.

personally i like different synths...who needs another VA.

"It is an eight-voice synthesizer with a 100% analog audio signal path."

It's true analog, not virtual.

That was his point I believe..

"personally i like different synths..." (as in, I like a variety of analog synths), "who needs another VA." (as in, who needs another VA, we need more of this)
