How To Get a Mash-up/bootleg Released?
View this Thread in Original format

I was wondering if anyone out there in the community has experience with getting mash-ups/bootlegs released in some form of vinyl. If you are one of these people here are a few questions.

What did you have to do to get it released? (Legal issues)
Worth the time and effort?
Did you hammer out the track long before releasing it on vinyl?
Any other thoughts or comments to newbies who might want to add this?

There's a 99% chance you can't get it released. You'll have to press it for yourself and that's not going to be cheap.

There's a video that shows the process of making/pressing vinyl... Definitely not cheap.

Probably need at least a couple grand realistically for pressing and distribution

vinyl's definitely a tough one, if it were cd then it'd make it a lot easier (obviously not the legal issues that might arise) but bootlegs on vinyl, in this age, I dunno. low chance i'd say

I'll +1 that.

More often than not, white label bootleg mixes are released by artists who own a fairly well-known record label (or carry a lot of weight with one) and have a good relationship with distributors to sell it to retailers.

Like others said, you can always pay to press it yourself, but then you have the problem of trying to sell it to a distributor or local record store.

If you're looking to make money off a white label tune, it's probably not going to happen. If you just want to get your track out there with no concern for profit, why not just post it on your web site for free?
