I live near there :) Call me when you are coming. We can hang out or go grab a bite to eat beforehand or after.
P.S. I get a discount on US Open tickets through my job ;) |

$50 is way too much for a grounds pass...anyone know of any cheaper deals on tickets?
I am rooting for Isner btw. |

roddick won before federer started to dominate the entire tennis scene. roddick had his opportunities and failed to take advantage. he also doesn't use the big bombs as much anymore, probably to save his shoulder. roddick's also a huge jerk.
blake is another head case who can play an amazing match against a top ranked opponent, but can easily lose the next to someone who's clearly not as good.
50 dollars for a grounds pass lets you stay all day from 11 am til the last match of the day. i think that's a very very good deal. it allows you to enter armstrong and grandstand as well (but not arthur ashe).
nils, second wk matches >>>> first wk matches |

please tell me you are joking...once upon a time, the US open used to let people into the grounds for free after 6pm and you could go into Armstrong stadium also for free.
The USTA is full of a bunch of no-good bandits, whose only concern is exploiting this beloved sport for money. Just look at the steady increase in price of just grounds passes alone, 5-6 years ago, it was merely 20 dollars. Not to mention the rediculous food prices.
as a ballboy, you of all people should know that the USTA jips people all the time, they dont even give you enough food stamps for a full meal. |

yeah unfortunately i started working there after ashe opened in 97, so perhaps the grounds were free after 6 pm back when. considering the prices of tickets for sessions in ashe now, grounds pass might be the only thing that's got some value.
hey i'm not defending the USTA in any way. i wish our meal money goes up at the same percentages as food prices do. it has been stuck at 15$ for the last few years (under 18, you get only 10$). burger and pizza prices have gone up over 10% from last year. it's disgusting. sneak in your own food if you can help it.
hugest profit "non-profit" organization ever. |

| The US Open is the highest grossing annual sporting event in the world. It is also the only time the USTA generates any revenue; I have no problem with the cost of tickets because all that money is funnelled into their park incitives and developing the growth of tennis in the US. Like they are set to open up a Chris Evert camp for talented kids and the USTA will pay for it; they do a lot of good stuff for tennis with that money so I say they can continue to raise prices. Imo they missed out on a lot of money with naming rights for the tennis center but oh well. |

they're a non-profit that doesn't does not allow you to take a look at their tax filings. that should say something.
*edit* i believe non-profits are supposed to make their tax returns available for viewing upon request. the NY times did this a few years ago and were stonewalled around the time the Open happened. |
