Ah, well if it's only a temporary thing, then that's different.

But like I said, don't sell yourself short! There's innumerable opportunities out there in the workplace for people who are actually capable of learning new things, as long as you are not afraid.

And I don't have a cubicle - I'm a concierge. I deal in fertile creature comforts and all that. :P

I work from home and work however long i want with maybe 50 minutes of contact with my company / week. For example i'm in boxer-briefs currently, drinking coffee and intend to stay this way until approximately 10:00, at which point i will go downstairs and battle the mighty dungeon gladiators in Suikoden V.

I'd probably, say, in a given week, I probably do about 5 hours of real, actual work.

Whyyyy meeeeee Goooodddddddd, whyyyyyyyyyy?????

what is your job, and where do you live so i can kill you and steal it?

rule of thumb - if I'm gonna miss a day, whatever the reason, no matter how legitimate, I will tell them I was sick. Being honest has always gotten me into . When you're sick, they won't argue because they don't want you contaminating the rest of the staff.

I left school at 15, nobody wants to employ me. They'd rather get some hungarian, asian or polish kid in on half the money who doesn't know what their rights are (eg minimum wage etc)

So good job I plan to get back into education & make something of myself. Maybe not much of a thing, but still, something

I'm late a lot more than I'd like to be...but traffic changes DAILY in this ing city lol. Sometimes it takes me 20 mins to get to work sometimes over an hour. It's a little ridiculous. If I'm going to be late I just call in and tell them. They all live in LA they know what it's like :p

As for being sick, I don't get sick too often (unless it's something like a little cough) in which case I just keep to myself and wipe down the machines and phones I use with wipes to kill the germs.

Come to think of it, I don't think I've been sick enough to miss work in a bit over a year or so. I think it's the fear that I'm pretty replaceable that keeps me healthy :p

we have pretty strict policy.. they expect a phone call 4 hours before your shift... they call you if you call in sick to see why you didnt come in. but most of the time its too god damn hectic in my department for managers to even give a .. they normaly let it slide... unless its a slow day

I can show up anywhere between 8 and 10 as long as I finish what I need to get done on a given day unless I have meetings or procedures planned at a specific time. As far as not showing up, my PI is very flexible, sometimes even allowing me to take 1/2 days and not counting it against my sick days or vacation days.

Sounds like you work for the state!

I get 24 vacation 3 person 12 sick and 12 holidays a year. Not to mention my work week is only 37.5 hours. As for showing up on time, as long as you get your hours in and dont abuse the system you can come in at any point.

i take days off whenever I please, as long as i don't abuse their leniency.
