Mother Charged With Felony Abuse After Child Takes Ecstasy
POSTED: 10:28 am PDT August 30, 2007
UPDATED: 6:05 am PDT August 31, 2007
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. -- A nurse was charged Thursday with felony child abuse after her 2-year-old daughter ingested Ecstasy and went into a hallucinogenic fit, accompanied by seizures. Firefighters were called Tuesday night to the Lake Arrowhead vacation home where the couple from Nevada was staying with the child, and the girl was taken to Mountains Community Hospital, then airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Cente
Shannon Leasure, 30, and her firefighter boyfriend, 46-year-old Mark Rumble, both were arrested and initially held on a $500,000 bond each. Rumble was not charged.
On Friday, the toddler remained hospitalized, but her father, Adrian Leasure, told the Reno Gazette-Journal she is in good condition and is not likely to suffer permanent damage.
Police said Leasure brought the drug with her on vacation and the girl somehow got a hold of it. Arresting officers said the couple appeared to be under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident.
Leasure could face six years in prison if convicted.
