BACK AGAIN!
Well after being gone for some time, I'm back to reviewing the artist submission in this once fun-to-be forum. Sorry guys, this place doesn't really attract me anymore. I won't let that bias my opinion in reviewing. Let's get to it!
Rmt's track starts off with a bit of play on the pads. They are very nice and feel open. After a few seconds of calibrating your ears for the main course, the main kick rips through the sense of serene atmospheres. The percussion elements seem to be a bit on the simple side. It's hard to really get a sense of the the driving element that this track tries to capture. I hear a few familiar sound effects, especially that drone in the beginning of the track. Reminds me a lot of Soren Weile's "Riot".
Unfortunately, I have a complaint against the majority of the track's mix down. It doesn't seem to really feel "big", that's the best way I can describe it. Even though the leads are nice and rich, the kick and bass combo seems to leave a lot to desire. This also applies to the pads during the main song. The pads don't feel vast enough and the kick doesn't really have that "OOMPH" factor to it.
The main melody is somewhat forgettable, this could be a problem in the sea of generic super saw trance melodies plaguing the trance genre nowadays. The rolling bass line sounds nice, but the sub bass frequencies, along with the kick need some serious rework (It's pretty noticeable when the final BOOM in the track sounds bigger than the whole track itself).
In the End
My personal gripe with the track is the lag of power in percussion and the kick and bass combination feeling too weak. Of course this not being final work, I can understand it's a work in progress. This review may sound harsh, but it's a cold, lifeless world we live in. Especially when those big guys at the labels want something innovative and huge. Nowadays a track of this caliber can be easily drowned out by the bigger, much more epic tracks out there.
