i used to think shifting bits of a song around would equal an "edit."
i used to think incorporating 2 breaks songs meant i could spin breaks.
i went through a couple name changes and eventually wish i just stuck with my birth name.
i have a bio in the 3rd person, albeit toned down cuz otherwise, yes, it is stupid. but written in the 1st person, it sounds like it's a blog.

live & learn. but yes, in retrospect, i agree that all the above can get on one's nerves. :p
what i find annoying is the need to categorize each song into a micro-genre. i understand that it's needed to define and describe songs, but only edm has genre subclasses to the power of negative 10, with such a wide discrepancy on what each subclass micro-genre is defined as.
i appreciate categories in order to sift through music, but seriously, there's a line when it becomes pointless.
oh, and i wish record stores still existed. i really miss shopping at a vinyl store. :whip: AND having good music to waste an afternoon listening through! :whip: :whip: |

+4. I can't even find a vinyl store in central london anymore that sells trance / prog / EDM.
Also the Genre thing, although useful to a point, so many go too far. I heard a Digweed set recently described as funky electro. Bull - it was prog house that happened to have some 80's sounds in it.
Went to bedrock too and hadn't been for while. Was billed as deep house and electro. Again, it was nothing more than prog.
The third person thing is debatable though. When you write press releases (as I have to do for work) they will always be in the 3rd person if you are writing it, so as to look like someone else wrote it, and therefore come across more professional. The real problem with these biogs is that they are written poorly and have so much filler/crap in them. This makes you feel that no-one else would have written it and then the whole 3rd person thing comes across stupid. Frankly who cares if you got a casio keyboard at 8 or your that your mum sent you to piano lessons and that's why you took up DJ'ing? It's hardly headlining at Dance Valley, or being the protege of a well known name. |

I like shopping in a good record store where they can recommend stuff that you might not have thought of, but don't miss the stores full of ego maniacs who look down on you for any record you might like.
plenty of people are becoming the music equivalent of wine snobs these days with all the genres. Sure if can help you describe the elements of the music and communicate those ideas with others, but like wine, it all comes down to "i like that one".
although in the case of wines, they all get you drunk, not all music gets you dancing. |

| The biggest thing i hate is people who judge without experiencing/listening. They hate a producer but have only heard a dj set. They hate a dj but haven't ever seen them in a club environment. I am a picky bastard that doesn't bite my tongue when i don't like something, but even I give the benefit of the doubt and suck it up to see acts I have a feeling i might not like at least once. These also tend to be the people who ask you," Have you heard that [producer with ALOT of decent to great stuff] track? Its really insane!" When you ask them which one they say i don't know...yet the can roll off every piece of release info and what colour shirt the producer was wearing when they do not like something without missing a beat. To me its like someone telling me that only the green m&m's taste good and the rest are poison. |

| i went to the local vinyl store today..all it was was clasic rock and crap. I asked for the trance, break beat, and house vinyls..litterally he pulled out a single small crate that was called "misc." and i looked through and maybe 1/8 of the records were EDM. I saw Paul Oakenfold - Faster Kill cat or whatnot for 20.00!!! i paid 6.99 i think for mine..so yeah.i dont miss them |
