Interview with the next generation rising trance legend that is S E A N T Y A S
DS - Hi Sean, last time we caught up was in Holland at Dance Valley where you played in the Christopher Lawrence tent. What have you been upto since then?

ST - A lot of rethinking things since dance valley: how I want to approach some techniques, what needs to change, what needs to improve, etc. I have started a couple of new original projects but I really want to take my time with them, including a vocal track, though still in process of locking down a dependable vocalist (raise your hand if you are one) with the exact right texture of voice that I want. Not easy.

DS - So you've been a bit busy to say the least. Any new releases or reworks coming out soon?

ST - Drop and One More Night Out come out this and next month respectively. I really can't wait for them to get released. Apart from that the latter half of this year, I think I want to only concentrate on originals for a while as I feel it's my most neglected side.

DS - Do you prefer studio time, or playing out?

ST - Damn you just haaaaad to go there and ask that didn't ya? Really hard to say. I think I enjoy and have way more fun playing out and enjoying those nights. But, on the other hand, the studio time, when it's a productive day at least, is way more satisfying in the end. What is really the best is a very productive week, a new track done, and a chance to play it on the following gig to test it out to a good party.

DS - Can you spin using vinyl? If so, ever used it in a club? Thoughts on Digital revolution?

ST - Started that way on Tech12's yea, in fact I sold them to my brother Ryan when I moved to Germany in 04. Vinyl was great, but now, seeing as how many remixes, reworks, and special edits of my originals I do, i'd never be able to play exactly what I want if I played vinyl still. The feel of it was great yea, and I think overall DJing is a tad more fun in the end when you're on vinyl. Back in 02 or so, when doing tiny clubs and bars occasionally vinyl would be what I would use because at the time, the turntable was still the standard thing, which has since then basically switched.

DS - Do you like any other music other than boshing Trance?

ST - I guess it can theoretically be anything, long as its either got emotion, pure drive, or both.

DS - Who would you say has influenced you over the years to get where you are now?

ST - Paul van Dyk, though I'm sure that's the answer of thousands. Just basically feeling that feeling on dancefloors he played for in the late 90s early 2000s really pushed me to figure out how it all worked.

DS - You've played a few times here in the UK - How would you compare the UK club scene to the US?

ST - It definitely IS a different feel. Though in no way better or worse, just different. It's funny how comfortable I have become playing anywhere in UK, maybe it's the accents In UK the trance scene has had a much stronger presence for a longer time than US, while the USA scene slowly and steadily gets more popular and accepted (especially with things like PvD and Armin playing very public outdoor venues like Central Park in NYC).

DS - Are there any talents out there you think will 'break-through' the Trance scene?

ST - My friend Tom Colontonio keeps just gettin simply better and better, I'm proud of him!

DS - An what are we to expect from Sean in 2008?

ST - Hehehe actually this one I'm not going to answer.

DS - Haha....cheers Sean. Thanks for your time and lets rip it up on the 14th.

P.s Oh, just tell us one crazy/interesting fact about you that not many people would know.

ST - I went to school for and got my degree in Fashion Illustration. Not to actually do that per se, I originally aspired to be an anime artist or work for Disney.
