Actually, the guillotine seems pretty painless compared to a lot of ways one could kill people. |

If we're going to be cruel about it, just stick them in a soundproofed cell with soft walls and floor (no possibility of killing themselves by head trauma or broken neck) and let them starve / dehydrate.
