Well for all you who've been waiting the past few years, Tenori-on is finally here. Albeit only for sale in UK at the moment but it seems to deliver everything that's been promised, and all the tidbits that have been revealed the past 6 months seem to wipe the floor with every other live performance sequencing device.

As it's only for sale in the UK at the moment, is there anyone over there who I could send mine to and have you ship it to me (I'd be happy to make it worth the effort)???

completely different. tenori-on is standalone device for sequencing and live looping. it does have midi in/out but its completely self operating and you can load your own sample banks in via SD card. monome is more of a controller.

Holy crap. This thing looks amazing from the video. It's like a Kaoss Pad on crack.

The Monome does all the rest of that & more...it's just not a standalone device. This thing definitely wins the aesthetics war, but I'm just curious as to whether it would really be a better option if you were going to use it as a controller (which still seems to be the main function of both, even though this has other capabilities). If it has the same or better functionality for those uses, it'll take over completely, since the new 256 Monome is going to be about $500 more than this device, is just a box, and doesn't have the support backing of a major manufacturer like Yamaha.

What a stupid .. Waste of money

It's definately rad, but I have yet to see it used to its full potential. Going to have to wait 'til Youtube gets some videos up of people's custom samples. Only videos I've seen are of it using beep sounds in a seemingly random, yet decently melodic, way.

The moment someone makes a univeral Max/MSP plugin for it, it'll take off. IF they haven't already, that is.

Probably going to be $1200 in the US.

Looks sleek, has seemingly enough functionability, and is really cool that you can play using batteries in case of worst case scenerios. That being said i didnt want to wait that long. I also asked myself if the designer would "get it" if i walkeed up to him and went "unst unst unst unst".

I took in those 2 factors and settled on this:

(zero8)

I'm pretty happy, and if i get a real itch to see the Tenori in action, there will probably be huge workshops on it at Mutek next year. It looks really slick, and in my experience, everything i have ever bought for music that has looked slick usually isn't as slick in other ways. Honestly i would wait and see what problems people have with them first before buying one. That Led display looks like beatiful potential for uselessness during failure. Just my opinion of course, The Zero8 is really sturdy and has pretty lights too.

ps. i don't mean to be rude, but paying to have that thing shipped from england is one of the dumbest moves you can ever make. It will cost a fortune to ship. First generation consoles are firt generation consoles. If anything goes up on it its going to cost more and more and amore until you wish the day you stopped using traktor never came. It is generally a bad move to buy anything you can't get your hands on to see if you are compatible with it. (i know it sounds weird, but i have seen ,many people buy stuff without trying first then absolutely regret their purchase. Reality is, you will still be cool and asve money if you wait. Worse case (i dont know about us availability), but Moog Audio in Montreel has them starting October 1st. (Way less shipping fees, although being mutek town im sure they are probably all spoken for. Call and see iof you can save a bit at least.)
