Don't really see the problem with asking a light question such as this here. Did it really offend people?
Anyway, why not consider xferring to SCCC and pull up your gpa, then transfer - if your heart is really to get into hunter. Or any other school. The transfer credits from NCCC to wherever only count as credits and should not count towards your gpa. So, it'd be a fresh start. |

its true (to be objective about it) -- ive transferred schools before and the grades in ur intended major area usually have to be at least a 3.0 -- 2.3 is nothing...i think SUNY FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) even requires at least a 2.7 and you transfer directly into ur major (if they even TAKE credit), thats just an example. and also if you take the same class twice, it is ALWAYS averaged esp if its a major class, altho i think they should have took ur latest effort into consideration.
yes schedule an appt and I hope the best for you, but usually as i recall, schools are the ones to initiate an interview if u show promise. but maybe these days u just need to show initiative and set up an appt. i recall having a BAD gpa in high school cuz i was a slacker and totally did not go to class...but then getting a 1300 on my SATs, coming from a good hs, and a strong latter half of my senior yr got me a call from one of the admissions ppl (who was wondering HOW my SATS were great but my gpa sucked)...and after talking to her, i was able to get into the school.
CUNYS are notorious for their staffs not being available during registrations times (too busy and shortstaffed).
Colleges in general should have higher minimium standards than even that just to ensure the quality of their students and their curriculum. but ive read that CUNYS are raising their standards as of Spring 2008 and good thing too. its usually much easier for freshman to get into schools than transfers.
btw why are you leaving Nassau Community College? Is it because you will be graduating with an Associates and going for the next two yrs at a 4 yr CUNY/for a particular major (like Nursing or PT -- areas in which the school is renowned in)? NCC is actually a great school for certain areas...in some areas even BETTER than Hunter. NCC is actaully privately funded and thats why they have certain programs that are a step above other normal CUNYs. |
Thank you very much for spending time for this post.I live in New york without my family. I am an international student. Of course i would talk to somebody who can give me a clear explanation on this issue. However, before this i felt may be i could find a TA who knows transfer policies. Nassau is a very good college. I am very glad to be a student there but, i am bored and have enough credits for transfer.
Deep Note: I have seen a lot of different threads which werent about music. "Need an Apartment" "My cat is very cute" so i dont see any problem..
Thanks again phoenixBEBE |

If you have enough credits to transfer but you still don't have 60 credits, maybe you should stick it out and put in the extra work to bring up that GPA. I understand that you may be bored but in life sometimes the answer isn't what you like. Good luck |

That sucks, i give you credit though, working FT and studying is not easy. I'm taking 6 credits and working 50 hours a week. I want to kill myself right now!!!
I actually ed up really badly in my first year (i was withdrawn from 3 classes by professors, which is the equivalent to an F in the school). But I went back to a different school and did much better, transferred to rutgers, then completed grad school. So you're right, it's not too late. |

being bored at a college isn't a good reason to transfer. |

since s/he goes to a community college it's not a bad reason. after all, the ultimate goal is to transfer out anyway. |

agree with jer there. If transferring would get aspy more interested in school then I think it's a good idea.
I don't know exactly what your situation is aspy (credit, major, and classes completed toward your major), but other members got this right. If you want to go to a decent school, you would need to bring your GPA up a little. Based on your description of Hunter's policy, it seems that you won't be able to bring your GPA up unless you take even more classes to wash it out (GPA is an average: if you get more better grade, it'd slightly increase your GPA). You may have to look into other schools if you want to transfer.
Also, because you work full time and take a full load, it would explain why your grade aren't stellar. In this case it makes perfect sense to talk to an admission officer. It probably won't work, but at least you would've tried. |

not really offend...what im sayin is that you'd get a much involved and intelligent answer from someone who knows you and your grades better...asking a question likethis on this type of forum wont really get any answers that youre probably looking for...youll see what a big waste of time this thread is once you visit an adviser....so just go man... |

Eventually i am going to transfer. The first reason why i want to transfer right now is my expanses. Auto Insurance, Mechanical break downs, very limited job opportunities etc.
Thank you very much. Im going to talk them on this wednesday. |
