Sure enough, but downloading the stuff illegally isn't going to change anything either. |
It will change the fact that I don't have something I want and have already tried to purchase, which is reason enough for most people, and I think that's the inherent problem with the whole system of territory restrictions - they force individuals into determining ethically proper action on their own and without genuine fear of repercussions.
In that sense, "ethically proper action" usually comes down to "what's in my own best self interest?" and perpetuates media piracy.
It's a vicious cycle. |

Yeah, but licensing stuff for every single country in the world really isn't as straightforward as "pick the countries you want this track to be available in", there are other factors involved as well. |

Yeah, punish the artist for something the label does. |
It's not a question of punishing anyone, it's doing whats necessary to get a tune you like.
If whats necessary is downloading it illegaly then how can people in the industry (labels, artists etc) be miffed about illegal downloads when they don't make their tracks accessible to everyone legally. |

I understand, however with a new medium of delivery there should have been at least some serious discussion regarding how ineffective the territorial licensing system is, which it really seems there wasn't.
It seems remarkably obvious to me that this would have been something addressed at the onset of the "digital" age, rather than something it seems artists, labels, and consumers are kicking themselves for years down the line. |

Yeah, if only they added new releases more often... and you could listen to a whole track without having it fade out every 30 secs. But if they added more releases it might get flooded with e. |

all the time. The selection is quite different, so if you're expecting the beatport top 10 electro-house singles, you're in the wrong place. The organization of the site blows, but being able to listen to entire tracks + the prices = win. |
