as a gay man who goes to 99% straight parties - I agree that "gay and straight mix doesnt work" - in Toronto at least.

When I see threads stop bitching about the carwash - then /maybe/ things will work, but hate to say it : sweaty clubs, hot shirtless men seem to go hand in hand with gay parties, and pretty much /every/ review thread I've read of a party that was "mixed" has people bitching about gays, or shirtless gays.

Or when a DJ like Victor Calderon can be booked and not have people asking "is this going to be a gay party?!"

as much as I'd like to think people go out for the music and not the sexuality of the crowd (its why I go out, I go where the music is good - if its gay/straight never comes into the equation), there seems to be allot of people of which that is a factor for.

I've had quite a few friends bail on coming out to parties with me because its not a 'gay party', and I've seen quite a few negative comments from straight people on various forums directed towards the gay-crowd.

I don't disagree with it. I was more rolling my eyes because it's exactly that attitude that is the reason Toronto isn't ready for a club like Boa/Sonic. People are delusional.

Lol. I think you're over simplifying things here. There are two reasons that I would rather go to a straight party than a gay party.

1. I would rather be around girls and guys than just guys. (re: I am straight)

2. It seems that the gay community is very "open" when it comes to public displays of affection. Personally, I don't like to see that. I don't like to see that whether the 2 (or more) parties involved are male, female, or what have you. I'm not going to say they should stop. They are free to do what they want, but I'd just prefer to not go there and witness it.

From what I know, it's the second point that most straight people have a problem with. The second point has nothing to do with prejudice.

I completely agree with point 2....when I went to BeB....I knew I was going to a predominately gay party and I had no issue with that....even the shirtless issue wasn't a problem....but some of the displays of affection definately bothered me.

That being said.....the only times I've seen inappropriate public displays of affection (at least in my opinion) have been at parties that were either at gay clubs or advertised as a gay parties....I personally haven't seen anything over the top at other events.....its just the difference in scenes.

Why do the displays of affection bother you?
