OK....i bought behringer's truth 2030A few days ago and now i'm interested in purchasing one of those sound cards. I can get both for the same price. Mainly i'm interested in better sound quality, not features or more I/O.

Anyone using them?

I use Reason 3.

Thank you!

ps: i read a thread about audiophile and it's low output level....that could be a problem, i would like to be able to reach the max sound level from the monitors when needed. is this true about m-audio?

Eh...I have a Fireface 400, Dyn BM5as and I still use the lower output sensitivity (-10dBu) because put simply:

+4dBu + 105dB peak signal + speakers 3 feet away from your head = Somebody! Get me an Ear Doctor! Stat!

what about a M-Audio - Audiophile 192 ?
it's like the 2496 but it has more i/o...
right?

You should think about driver stability also.
Have a look at the Echo Audiofire 2.

as far as i know all of them use the same driver asio 2.0. if not, they suck.

I have a emu 0404 myself, had a FW audiophile before(still using it live), it's a cool piece of hardware, drivers are rock stable (not what could be said about m-audio), it has some pretty cool effects you can use as vsti on your sequencer (not reason though) that don't suck up any cpu power, the patchmix dsp is a bit spartan, but it gets the job done...
It's actually a win-win situation, i'd prefer the e-mu card a bit, but it doesn't make that much difference. They both have ultra low latencies, and get the job done, so it's either way i guess ;)

There are many asio drivers, Emu/Creative has one, M-Audio has one, Asio4All, etc.

and one more thing....can you install those cards on any PCI slot? i mean it works with PCI or does it have to be PCI 2?

all you need is a normal pci slot :)

I've got the Audiophile 24/96 and it hasn't given me any problems with ASIO drivers or audio levels in 3 years .... I love mine and would never change it unless I needed more outputs.

Cheap as chips too!
