I love, despite that the fact that the UK has been making chips for much longer than the US, the US still reckons fries are the correct term.
It'd be like telling spain that paella is actually called seafood-fried-rice. |

| In Canada we will often use "chips" for french fried potatoes as well as for thinly sliced fried potato. Believe it or not... no one ever gets them confused. BTW, if you look for potato crisps in Canada you will likely end up with a baked version of thinly sliced potato rather then a fried version. |

The UK didn't invent them. France/Belgium did. Over there they're called 'frites', which properly translates as 'fries'. |
