| This conversation comes up once a month. The Sony ones aren't garbage, they just aren't as smooth or crisp as the Sennheisers. And the reason why the dj's are wearing the Sony ones most of them time is because they are sponsored to wear em. Usually. |

tru the senneheisers have the best quality sound, BUT they dont fit me well, I like it when my whole ear is covered by the cup!!! The senn. ones are too small, thats why I chose to get the sony ones over those and the technics ones...they might not be as good as the senn. but I mean I cant tell that much of a difference from the sonys I have and the sennheisers,,,fit is also important too, dont get ones that fit you awkwardly... |

Actually you don't have to. All of their headphones on their headphone "rack" are plugged into the same source (usually jazz music or something like that), so you can compare the headphones right there. If you can't hear anything through them then it means some idiot must have turned the volume down. Look to the left of the headphone rack and you will see something like a bookcase. There will be an amp there about shoulder height or so. Turn up the volume on that until you can hear music. That should do it.
I don't know if you can use your own CD, haven't actually tried it. Give it a shot though.
Anyway, the V700's aren't *entirely* crap, but you can get better phones for less money. The main complaint I have with them is that they're overpriced and uncomfortable (the latter differs from person to person, but that is how they're like for me). But they sure as hell look nice. (As for durability mine seem to be doing quite well)
I personally suggest Sony MDR-V6 (*not* MDR-V600, don't let some store employee fool you into getting those). Built like a tank and sound great. You won't find them anywhere at Bay Bloor Radio though or anywhere else in Toronto. You'll have to get them online, or from the U.S. Usually on Yahoo Shopping you can find them for $50-60 USD or so. In total, after shipping and customs and all that crap they end up $130-$150 CAD or so. Don't quote me on that, haven't checked in a while. |

Easy, Sony PAYS the dj's to use them. Ever hear of advertising??:D
P.S. And yes the MDR-V6's are the ones I was speaking of previously. A person with the nick "Gluegun" knows what he's talking about in terms of headphones...:) |

You can't pay professionals to use what (everyone calls) headphones. So the fact that they DO use them, says something. Just like any other profression, they may be sponsored or paid to use specific products, ultimately it's their decision, and they will not use inferior products. |

Yeah, the V700's are functional. A lot of people can tell little to no difference between them and better phones. :p |

lol exactly, for me they are very comfortable
i can wear them for hours on end...it all depends on the person I guess... |

Yeah, exactly. ;) I have a relatively large head (European), so they tend to pinch my ears. They get uncomfortable (as the phones aren't circum-aural but supra-aural, so they go on *top* of my ears), and their weight causes the headband to produce some pressure down on my head (the V700's are pretty heavy, ~300g IIRC).
EDIT: What I have described above is what happens after I wear them for a few hours (like 1-2+). They're not all that bad in the short-term.
I tested out the V6's for like 10 seconds when I passed by a friend on the street, and they seemed comfortable enough. I'll have to wear them much longer to make sure though (like several hours).
So you are absolutely correct, it really does depend on the person. |

Well....as far as a great pair of functional headphones (ie. not nessecarily professional) I got a pair of KOSS SportaPro.
They were about $80 w/ tax and they're amazing! Definately the best pair I've ever bought.
They got great reviews and I know why now.
Check em out. :D
