you would need a firewire soundcard to support something like ableton/traktor etc...and if you wanted to use your cdj's as well, you would need a 4 channel mixer, or something with midi control like my Ecler NUO 4.
with a desktop tower on the other hand, or something that has some PCI-e slots, you could use an internal soundcard, as long as it has two seperate stereo outputs. i recommend the m-audio 1010LT (i think thats what its called), the m-audio audiophile 192 despite its appearance doesnt have enough outputs to route to the mixer, so i got ed on that one.
but yeah, unless you want to disconnect your CDJ's you need a 4 channel mixer. if you were to disconnect your CDJ's from the mixer, and wanted to use traktor (what i use time to time) you just route the soundcard's connections to the mixer H-Line input, just like you would your CDJ's, and configure it in the program, i believe there is a video on native instrument's website, and they call this "Analogical mode", where you set it up to use an external mixer, and you see no mixer on screen. and then you could use keyboard presets to control the functions of the program since your djm 400 has no midi controls.
btw, iMac's are those computers built into the monitor, you said imac laptop, did you mean macbook? (either way, everything stays the same, still need that external soundcard) |
