im not too concerned about amazing sound so am not bothered about a new sub, i just want small powerful speakers i can put on my desk in front of me so i can still clearly hear my mixing at fairly low volumes :)

Go with the RP5's.

I use them at home, they are very nice.

How big is your room? Might look at the V6s instead.

my room is just a normal bedroom, fully furnished and with carpet.. it's about 11ft x 12 ft or so.

Personally I would spend the $100 or so more on the V6s. Better sound and they'll be more than enough to monitor that area. From my experience 8inch monitors are loud. I guess if you're using them only for DJing purposes that is fine but for production work they're quite a bit louder than is necessary.

one of my 5's blew out apparently last weekend even thoogh I have never cranked em up. Had it less than a yr and rarely used. Maybe just bad luck, cause I really like what I had...:whip:

i ordered these 2-3 weeks ago and they just came today.
must say i'm very pleased with them and they sure as hell beat my altec lansing computer speakers to crap.
they sound great

RP5s are too small to be of any use without a sub woofer.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again; If you're a DJ, 8" Behringers are your friend.

I agree with this. If you are using these as DJ monitors the 8 inch Behringers are loud and sound pretty good for DJ monitors. For production I'd look elsewhere but if you just want monitors to mix with they're a great value.

I'll take event entry level monitors over KRKs anyday... love my ALP5s and the TR-6s and 8s are even better... a slight slight jump up from the same size from KRK, but totally worth it for the sound imo.

Too small?

They may not output the best sub bass, but they are incredibly loud and produce good mids and highs.

Perfectly adequate for bedroom DJing.

I'd even be tempted to use them for a small party of ten people or something.

i've bought them now, really happy with them :) for such small boxes they kick out a lot of sound :D

i compared them to 2 other pairs that were the same sort of price and they sounded so much better

got them for £229 with 2 6m XLR cables thrown in too :D
