A 10 year old murderer (she cut the throat of another student because of an online flame war) became a pop icon in Japan.
Her identity was withheld by police, but a photo circulated on the 4chan of japan with her wearing a Nevada sweater.
She became known as Nevada-Tan and her character is an online pop icon (kind of like Star Wars Kid or Alex Chiu, etc)

A common representation of Nevada-tan is as ASCII art, similar to Giko, Mona, etc.[9] She is often depicted as slashing idiotic posters on the 2channel boards. Inevitably, this spilled over into 4chan and from there to other English language imageboards, introducing Nevada-tan to the English speaking world.
Nevada Tan is the name of a German Nu Metal band which formed in 2007 and has since released a very succesful debut record in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
Australian band Love Outside Andromeda wrote a song about the incident, entitled Boxcutter, Baby. |
