This is why i have tried to cut out sodas from my diet. The only thing that I've been successfully able to do. I'm still fat though ;)

Your statement is 1/2 correct. Switch to diet and you cut out ALL of the extra calories from soda. So you can still drink your 1-2 per day and not be affected.... Don't be stubborn about the switch like some. Diet soda for me anyways, actually tastes better because it's lighter/crisper and doesn't leave that sugary feeling on your teeth. Coke Zero, Diet Dr. Pepper, Diet Pepsi all taste pretty close to their sugar laden counterparts. Give it a shot.

I've heard different stories about diet sodas. and yes, the switch is HARD!!!

But been doing pretty good in terms of cutting it out in general. Maybe the occasional splurge over the weekend.

Actually, diet soda has been shown to be just as bad or even worse.

"The point is that the risk is high no matter how many soft drinks one consumes and no matter what type of soft drink one consumes," said Dr. Ramachandran S. Vasan, associate professor of medicine at Boston University School of Medicine and one of the study authors. "This adds to what we already know about how soft drinks may be associated with weight gain and metabolic risk."

quote:
"What didn't surprise us was that total soft drink use was linked to overweight and obesity," Fowler tells WebMD. "What was surprising was when we looked at people only drinking diet soft drinks, their risk of obesity was even higher."

In fact, when the researchers took a closer look at their data, they found that nearly all the obesity risk from soft drinks came from diet sodas.

It's been about 6 years since i've had regular soda. Been drinking diet ever since, and not as frequently.

Those studies can be interpreted either way, read them carefully! They are worded so that they make it seem like a particular type of view is scietifically supported when in fact they make concessions and point out the limitations of those views in other parts of the study.

Agreed with GPC, consuming "diet products" like diet coke is not a green light for increased intake of fats and sugars from other food sources, and an increased intake of food in general. I think most people are severely mistaken by that falty assumption.

I think it's more of a "tool" that combined with other healthier dietary adjustments and moderate excercise can help one to lose weight while still being able to regularly enjoy things that they normally wouldn't be able to eat if they wanted to lose weight.

Let's be real though, a diet coke here or there isn't going to kill us. I'm sure many of us ingest other things (cough cough) that are far more harmful. I think the lesson is that everything in MODERATE quantities should be okay......

obviously soda is horrible, yet that will not alone help you lose fat. it will help you gain more fat.
