X-Session or X-Session Pro

Hi everyone, I've been reading through this forum for a while, but now I need to ask you something :D
I'd like to buy a basic MIDI controller, and as I already own the keyboard pad, I'd need one with knobs and (maybe) faders...
I've been looking around, and two models caught my attention :
The X-Session and its big brother, the X-Session Pro...
I've first thought, judging by the name, that the X-Session Pro was an improved, more recent version of the X-Session, but after inquiring a bit, it turned out to be quite different (not to mention cheaper)...
Now from you experience, which one would best suit my purpose ? Can rotary knobs easily replace faders ?

it doesn't matter how many times i say this but LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES... i've owned so much gear and rebought items 6 mos later because i wasn't happy.
get yourself a novation remote sl and call it a day, i owned an x-session pro -- its as if you bought it at toys r' us. i shouldn't need to sell you on the remote, its the #1 midi controller available. the remotezero might be a cheap solution for you |

| The Remote 0 looks nice indeed, but it's 3x more expensive, I'd rather start with something cheaper, even if I have to buy it in 6 months, as you did... |

how does that make sense? just save your money and buy the nicer one in 2 mos? my point is, i wasted loads of money buying the 'cheap stuff' first when i should of just saved up for the proper items from the get go |

The point is, my "level" in music making is quite low, so I probably won't need anything better than the cheap alternative for a while...
I mean, what's the point of buying a nice midi controller, only to quickly find out that I only use 30% of its possibilities ? |

because when your ready for 31% or even 32% of its possabilities you won't need to go buy a new device. you can use the remote very simply like an x-session or very complex like all the templates i have on it.
it's like i'm working for novation or something lol.
sorry man i don't mean to corner your efforts here but i feel very strong about my views on this because i've been in your shoes and it pains me to think you'd make the same mistakes that i did. if DJDirty sees this thread he's going to flip haha. |

...well, seems like I'll have to wait a bit longer, but I suppose that I still do own you my thanks :)
EDIT : And out of curiosity, could the UC-33e be a good compromise ? |

it might be, but what makes the novation products stand out beyond all others is the auto map feature. no matter what DAW you're working with, when you load a synth all of its knobs/sliders/pots will be mapped to your remote for tweaking so its as if your midi controller just turned into the synth on your screen. pretty cool.

Even without faders, it looks nice...
I suppose I'll have to sell my ol' midi keyboard though... ...guess this is the kind of situation you mentionned earlier :D
EDIT : Damnit, it's actually more expensive than the Remote Zero SL... Oh well, I'll just stop partying for a while and put some money aside... |

Darkbax, first you need to decide what exactly you want to use it for. The X-session pro is a DJ midi controller. Completely pointless buying it for production.
Do you need piano keys? If so then yes the novation remote sl is the best one to get. Cheaper alternatives would be m-audio axiom, m-audio oxygen, edirol pcr series.
If you dont need keys then the novation remote zero would be an excellent choice alongside your existing midi keyboard. The UC33e is a good controller as well. The Behringer BCR and BCF controllers are popular also.
Decide what you require then you can narrow it down... |
